2016 Fantasy Football Week 5 Buy Low/Sell High
Buy Low
Quarterback
Eli Manning (QB22) – Manning is 5th in the league in passing yards, but is 24rd in quarterback touchdowns. Manning’s touchdown percentage this season is 2.6 percent. His career average is 4.7 percent and last season, he finished at 5.7 percent. I’m expecting positive TD regression for Eli, making him an obvious buy low candidate.
Running Back
Lamar Miller (RB19) – Miller leads all running backs in touches, but has yet to score. I don’t expect Miller’s scoring drought to continue. Miller is a big-play guy as well but his longest touch this season has gone for just 15 yards. The volume is there, and better games with touchdowns and long runs are ahead for Miller.
Also buy: Eddie Lacy (RB34), DeAndre Washington (RB51), Derrick Henry (RB54)
Wide Receiver
Odell Beckham Jr. (WR34) – Beckham Jr. still hasn’t scored this season. I wrote him up last week, and he made it even easier to buy low now. After Xavier Rhodes and the Vikings defense kept Kelvin Benjamin off of the stat sheet in week 3, they held Beckham Jr. to just three catches for 23 yards in week 4. The Giants know they need to get Beckham Jr. the ball, and there is no way he’ll be kept out of the end zone all season. Buy OBJ as a top 3-7 wide receiver.
Jeremy Maclin (WR40) – Maclin has gone three straight games without scoring, but has averaged over nine targets per game. The Chiefs have been inconsistent, but Maclin is the best receiver on the team. Last season he scored eight touchdowns and finished as the WR17. Buy Maclin as a top 20 wide receiver in fantasy football leagues.
John Brown (WR54) – It may be hard to buy John Brown after last week, but he only finished with 14 fantasy points in standard scoring. The lack of touchdowns and the overall place (WR54) amongst wide receivers could convince John Brown owners to sell. Here are John Brown’s target numbers through four weeks: 4, 3, 11 and 16. He’s been getting healthier throughout the year, and looks to be ready to explode. Buy John Brown and a top 25 wide receiver.
Also buy: DeAndre Hopkins (WR25), Amari Cooper (WR27), Kevin White (WR66), Tajae Sharpe (WR74), Randall Cobb (WR81)
Tight End
Delanie Walker (TE12) – After missing week 3 with a hamstring injury, Walker had one of the more difficult matchups against tight ends as Houston is number one against the tight end and has allowed scores of 1, 3, 1 and 3 to Zach Miller, Travis Kelce, Martellus Bennett, and Delanie Walker. Walker owners will panic after seeing only three fantasy points over the past two weeks and may try to trade him. Buy Walker as a top 6-8 tight end for the rest of the season.
Also buy: Eric Ebron (TE10), Rob Gronkowski (TE62)
Sell High
Quarterback
Matt Ryan (QB1) – Not only is Matt Ryan the QB1, he’s QB1 by 24 fantasy points (6 per game) over Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger who tie for QB2. There’s a possibility Matt Ryan is better than perceived, but it’s also possible the Panthers defense is much worse we think. I’m still pretty positive Matt Ryan won’t finish the season as the top quarterback so make your best sales pitch to get rid of him at his peak value.
Also sell: Philip Rivers (QB10)

Running Back
DeMarco Murray (RB1) – Murray is averaging 21 touches per game and is on pace for almost 2,000 total yards. He has taken over control of the backfield as Derrick Henry has become an afterthought. I like Murray’s situation due to volume and his involvement in the passing game, but I’m not convinced Murray is a top five running back. Derrick Henry is too talented to only see three carries like he did last week, so I expect more work for Henry as the season progresses. Murray is an RB1, but if you can get top ten overall value for him, you should take it.
Additional note: Earlier today, DeMarco Murray was dealt for Odell Beckham Jr. in one of my leagues.
Also sell: Isaiah Crowell (RB4), Carlos Hyde (RB5), Tevin Coleman (RB11)
Wide Receiver
Demaryius Thomas (WR) – This is less about Thomas, and more about what the Broncos have done on offense. The Broncos are still a run-first team, and when they do throw, Emmanuel Sanders has been the top receiver. Evan Silva of Rotoworld sent the following tweet on Monday:
“Emmanuel Sanders leads NFL in red-zone targets (8) & targets inside the 10 (7) and he’s out-targeted Demaryius Thomas 42 to 27 overall.”
This could just be a small sample size, but it also could be a sign of what’s to come.
Also sell: Will Fuller (WR7), Eddie Royal (WR17), Brian Quick (WR29),
Tight End
No tight ends qualify as sell-highs in my opinion. Some may reference Martellus Bennett as a sell-high since Rob Gronkowski continues to get healthier, but with Tom Brady back, the Patriots offense can support two top-12 tight ends.
