2017 Fantasy Baseball: News and Notes Week 4
The big issue of the week is the health of Noah Syndergaard. Syndergaard was placed on the DL with a torn lat muscle. Earlier in the week he said that his arm was so sore he couldn’t lift it passed his shoulder. Then, he refused to get an MRI to check out what the problem was. And now, he is on the DL and will likely miss an extended period of time. Coming in to the season I wasn’t a big Syndergaard fan because of the fact that he just throws too hard. The body can only last so long when you’re throwing a 90 mph slider. Hope you made back up plans.
Miguel Sano is batting .316 and is leading the AL in runs batted in. I expected Sano to have a breakout campaign but he has far exceeded my expectations. The batting average won’t stay the same but most of what he is doing is legit.
Anthony Rendon went 6/6 with 5 runs, 3 homers, and 10 rbi. Just an absurd game from Rendon one that may not be repeated ever. There was only one person in MLB HISTORY who did what Rendon did yesterday. I hope you started him and you should continue to. The buy low opportunity with Rendon is likely gone.
Aaron Judge has 10 homers and is batting .303 through the first month. I would sell high immediately because there is no way he can keep up any of these paces.
Just really quickly, if you own Matt Harvey trade him right now. He is striking out 5.4/9 and his K/BB rate is 1.8. Both are terrible and are numbers that average pitchers blow away.
Ryan Zimmerman is going absolutely bonkers right now and is the best hitter in baseball right now. If I owned Zimmerman I would see what I could get. You should be able to get a decent hitter in return for him.
Ever since he has joined the Pirates, Ivan Nova has been pitching like one of the best pitchers in baseball. I’m not sure what to make of this. The pirates pitching coach, Ray Searage, has a long track record of turning guys careers around and it appears this is just the latest player to feel his affects.
