2017 Fantasy Football: Top Waiver Wire Adds for Week 9

With seven wide receivers either having big Week 8 games or expected to come back from injuries, Week 9 waivers is the week of the wide receiver. It’s become slim pickings over the past few weeks on the waiver wire, but this week there is a ton of decent options. Let’s get to it…

Quarterbacks

Jimmy Garoppolo (SF) 2%

2017 Fantasy Football Week 9 Waiver WireIn case you missed it, the 49ers sent a 2018 second-round draft pick to the Patriots for QB Jimmy Garoppolo and he should step right in to be the starter in Week 9. Obviously, you won’t be starting Garoppolo in Week 9, but he is worth a speculative add in deep or two QB leagues. He is also a must add in any dynasty format in which he was not owned already.

Running Backs

Alex Collins (BAL) 34%

After rushing for 113 yards in Week 8, head coach John Harbaugh said Collins has earned himself more snaps going forward — and why not? He tore off junk run after junk run on Thursday night, and even when the threat of the pass was gone when QB Joe Flacco went down, the Dolphins still couldn’t stop him. He gets the Titans next.

Orleans Darkwa (NYG) 47%

I don’t really love Darkwa, but his schedule down the stretch should allow him to rack up some fantasy points. Over his next six games, he has games against the 49ers, Chiefs, Redskins and Raiders, all of which struggle to stop the run. His next game is against the Rams, which could be tough, but coming off a bye week he could still be a nice fill in.

Darren McFadden/Alfred Morris (DAL) 55%/ 38%

Ezekiel Elliott is suspended…again.

Wide Receivers

Corey Davis (TEN) 27%

Davis is expected to make his return in Week 9, and he will be a much-needed play-maker in this Titans pass offense. In his only fully healthy game (Week 1), Davis had 6 catches for 69 yards, which isn’t awe-inspiring, but he had 10 targets which is encouraging. He has the potential to be one of the best receivers in the league in a few years and is worth the add down the stretch.

Dede Westbrook (JAC) 10%

2017 Fantasy Football Week 9 Waiver WireThe best wide receiver for the Jags in preseason wasn’t Allen Robinson, it wasn’t Marqise Lee, nor was it Allen Hurns, no, it was Dede Westbrook. In fact, he was the best wide receiver in the entire league during the preseason, racking up a league-leading 288 yards and two touchdowns. Westbrook will be eligible to return soon and he should be added in all leagues.

Corey Coleman (CLE) 11%

Another wide receiver due to be back soon is arguably the Browns best wide receiver, Corey Coleman. He may be a little farther away from playing than Dede Westbrook, but worth an add as we head down the stretch of the fantasy season.

Juju Smith-Schuster (PIT) 49%

This one is likely to be the weeks’ No. 1 waiver wire request. With Martavis Bryant falling out of favor in Pittsburg for various reasons, including his social media rant and his play on the field, Smith-Schuster has stepped up in his absence and looks to have taken the job.

Josh Doctson (WAS) 43%

Doctson’s arrow is pointing up over the last few weeks, and if he can stay healthy he could be an interesting fantasy option on a Redskins team that can’t run the ball. Terrelle Pryor Sr. has all but fallen out of the rotation in Washington, opening the door for the former first-round pick.

Paul Richardson (SEA) 32%

Richardson will be a close second to JuJu as the No. 1 waiver wire pickup after his two touchdown performance on Sunday. Russell Wilson looked better than he has all season and the Seahawks pulled off a trade for OL Duane Brown to bolster their offensive line, which will help their passing game. The arrow is pointing up for him going forward.

Robby Anderson (NYJ) 28%

Man, are the Jets forreal? Okay, probably not, but they are way better than anyone gave them credit for, and Robby Anderson is a big part of that. He is very inconsistent, but QB Josh McCown seems to trust him and he could have one or two big games left in him down the stretch.

Tight Ends

Austin Hooper (ATL) 47%

2017 Fantasy Football Week 9 Waiver WireHe isn’t as consistent as you would like, but tight end is such a shallow position that Hooper is a decent bye week fill in, and potential starter if you’re desperate.

Defense

Buffalo Bills @ NYJ 47%

Their ownership surprised me as they have been one of the top defenses in fantasy all year. They have 11 interceptions, good for second-most in the league, and the 153 points allowed ties them for 13th. They get the Jets this week and should be able to reek havoc on them in Week 9.
