Josh Doctson – Casual players may not know Doctson started over Terrelle Pryor on Monday night. While the final results weren’t fantastic, Doctson played 84% of the offensive snaps (Football Outsiders), compared to Pryor’s 47%. Most of Pryor’s snaps came in the second half when Washington was in catchup mode, as Doctson out-snapped Pryor 29-1 in the first half (via @PFF_NateJhanke on Twitter). Doctson is a talented WR and a former first round pick. He’s dealt with injuries throughout his career, slowing his overall progress. He’s healthy now and looks like Washington’s best wide receiver. Doctson is likely available on the waiver wire, but even if he’s owned in your league, you should be able to acquire him without giving up more than a bench player.
Adam Thielen – Thielen is seeing a ton of volume this season and is tied for 4th in the NFL in targets. Even with all the targets, he hasn’t scored. The five players who have at least 65 targets (the same as Thielen) have recorded 16 total receiving touchdowns. I’m expecting the targets to remain fairly static throughout the year (Thielen still averaged 8 targets per game with Stefon Diggs healthy), and positive touchdown regression should be in Thielen’s future.
Chris Hogan – After a solid four week stretch, Hogan has disappointed in consecutive weeks. He ranks 5th in the NFL in red zone targets and has scored four touchdowns in the red zone already. I’ll still rank Hogan as the top Patriots wide receiver, and I believe he’s a solid WR2 with WR1 upside in the right matchups. If you can get him for low-end WR2 value, he’s worth it.
Sterling Shepard – Shepard is again a buy as he was inactive last week. See my argument for Shepard here: Buy Low Sell High Week 7

T.Y. Hilton – Andrew Luck has basically been ruled out for the rest of the season, so Hilton has no hope of getting a quarterback upgrade. Jacoby Brissett is a solid backup, but doesn’t have the passing ability to make Hilton a consistent WR1/2. Hilton will likely be a high upside/low floor WR3 for the rest of the year, and may drop into WR4 territory in certain matchups. Hilton was able to take advantage of matchups against the Browns (26th) and the 49ers (29th), but has a brutal schedule the rest of the season. The Colts offense will face the following pass defenses yet this year: Bengals (12th), Steelers (2nd), Texans twice (8th), Jaguars (1st), Bills (11th), Broncos (3rd), and Ravens (4th). See if someone will bit on a few big games and the name value of Hilton because his value should continue to drop throughout the season.
- All defensive ranks refer to Football Outsiders DVOA
- Note: Although Hilton is a season-long sell, he’s one of my favorite buy low candidates in dynasty. I will monitor his dynasty cost over the next few months, looking to buy.
O.J. Howard – Howard exploded for 27.8 PPR points last week scoring twice and catching all six of his targets. He was left completely uncovered on two of his three touchdowns this season. I don’t think the Buccaneers offense can support two tight ends this year, and I don’t see Howard overtaking Cameron Brate any time soon. Brate still saw 9 targets in week 7 and has 60 yards or a touchdown in five straight games. If someone in your league is scrambling for a tight end, try to sell them on Howard.
T.J. Yeldon/Kenny Stills – If you can sell these players before Leonard Fournette and DeVante Parker return, do it. I don’t believe Yeldon is the Fournette handcuff, and Stills is a boom/bust WR4 even when Parker is absent from the lineup.
