2017 NFL DraftKings GPP Plays for Week 9

There weren’t too many trades that went down ahead of this past Tuesday’s trade deadline, but the few that did were blockbusters. First, Monday night the Patriots traded away their backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo to the 49ers for a second round pick. This coming after much speculation during the off-season that he would be traded prior to the start of 2017. Then on Tuesday, the Dolphins shocked everyone by trading away Pro Bowl running back Jay Ajayi to Philadelphia in exchange for a fourth round pick.

The though process behind that one is still puzzling, but in both cases, each player gets a fantasy boost on their new teams. Will it actually carry over into fantasy production though? We’ll see, but for now let’s take a look at this week’s top GPP plays on DraftKings.

The Gamefly DraftKings GPP Plays for Week 9

Quarterbacks

Drew Brees (NO) vs. TB $7,000

If you’re willing to fork up the $8,100 this week for Deshaun Watson against the Colts terrible defense, I won’t blame you. However, if you’re looking to save a little salary for other areas, Drew Brees is a solid pick this week. At $7,000, Brees’ price is still a little hefty, but he gets a quality matchup this week at home against Tampa Bay. The key words there are at home. Brees has sort of been a disappointment this season for fantasy owners, but this is a great spot for him to rack up yards and touchdowns against a struggling Bucs defense.

Dak Prescott (DAL) vs. KC $6,700

Prescott had his worst game of the season this past Sunday as far as fantasy numbers are concerned. In the two meetings prior to that, however, Prescott had a pair of four touchdown performances. It will be hard for him to do that against the Chiefs, but Kansas City’s defense is extremely vulnerable without Eric Berry.

It looks like the Cowboys will be without Ezekiel Elliott (for real this time) as he starts his six-game suspension. Of course, Elliott could appeal his suspension which could open the door for him playing at least one more week, but either way, Prescott is a solid option against this Chiefs D.

Other Notables: Deshaun Watson (HOU) vs. IND $8,100, Matthew Stafford (DET) @ GB $6,100

Running Backs

Lamar Miller (HOU) vs. IND $6,200

After last week’s epic game between HOU-SEA, much of the talk surrounding the Texans evolved around Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins, and rightfully so. Hidden from the fact though is that lead runner Lamar Miller finished the day with two touchdowns off 24 touches himself. Teammate D’Onta Foreman did not receive a touch in last week’s game, and if it happens again, could mean another big day for Miller as both a rusher and receiver in this dream matchup.

Adrian Peterson (ARI) @ SF $5,600

Peterson quickly rushed back down to reality in Week 7 after exploding against Tampa Bay in Week 6 with his new team. Without Carson Palmer, expect the Cardinals to lean heavily on the run game, with a strong dose of Peterson. This may not be good news in the long run with teams keying on him, but it should do wonders at least against San Francisco’s league worst rushing attack.

Other Notables: Alvin Kamara (NO) vs. TB $6,300, Aaron Jones (GB) vs. DET $6,000

Wide Receivers

Will Fuller V (HOU) vs. IND $7,000

The Texans home matchup with the Colts is shaping up to be a doozy for fantasy production. Will Fuller has been outstanding since returning in Week 4, having already totaled seven touchdowns in four games off of just 13 receptions. Deshaun Watson has counted on Fuller as his deep-threat, and so far Fuller has delivered. Fuller’s price tag skyrocketed this week after what he did against Seattle, but he’s still in prime position for another huge game.

Devin Funchess (CAR) vs. ATL $5,400

Ok. I’m going to give Funchess one last opportunity to make me look good. I’ve called for Funchess to have some big games in recent weeks, but he’s been near nonexistent in Carolina’s last three games. That hasn’t stopped Cam Newton from targeting Funchess, however, and with Kelvin Benjamin now off to Buffalo, Funchess is now the clear #1 in Carolina, even if by default.

Ted Ginn Jr. (NO) vs. TB $5,000

Ted Ginn has had some bright spots this season in the Saints offense. He has emerged as New Orleans #2 receiver behind Michael Thomas. Willie Snead saw just four snaps last week, despite being at full strength. The Saints get a favorable matchup this week in the dome against Tampa Bay, who has one of the worst passing defenses in the NFL.

Other Notables: DeVante Parker (MIA) vs. OAK $6,100, Marvin Jones Jr. (DET) @ GB $5,600

Tight Ends

Austin Seferian-Jenkins (NYJ) vs. BUF $4,900

Seferian-Jenkins remains one of Josh McCown‘s most reliable targets, and has really settled in his role with New York. The Jets play the division rival Bills in the Thursday matchup this week, and will likely involve their top tight end frequently in this plus matchup. Buffalo leads the league in turnover differential, but don’t mistake them for an elite defense. The Bills defense has become a viable one in fantasy football because of their capability to create turnovers, and record sacks. However, racking up yards and scoring points against them is highly plausible. The Bills struggle most against tight ends so look for Todd Bowles and company to exploit that.

Other Notables: Zach Ertz (PHI) vs. DEN $6,800, Jack Doyle (IND) @ HOU $4,300

Defense

Philadelphia vs. DEN $3,300

The Eagles have recorded four sacks in each of the last two games, and will get a great opportunity to make it three in a row. The Broncos offense has held them back for the past few seasons, and it seems to only be getting worse. They will trot out Brock Osweiler this week as they go through a quarterback change, and if he plays any similar to how he did in Houston, then this could be a long day for Denver.

Other Notables: L.A. Rams @ NYG $3,100, Detroit @ GB $3,000
