2019 Fantasy Football: Bold Predictions – Best Buy
I choose to use this prediction in the later rounds when you already should have your starting lineup on your roster but are still hunting for that player who has breakout potential or at least be a respectable player to fill in during the bye weeks. There are quite a few tight ends I have in my notes that fit this category so I am going to skip them and concentrate on a guy who is likely not on many radars but I feel is a great buy where he is being drafted which is typically in rounds 10 and 11 in almost all of the 12 team drafts I have seen.
When I think of Best Buy, I am usually looking to upgrade my computer, buy a new TV or maybe a new laptop but that is not the case here. Instead, I am looking to find that “Best Buy” in the later rounds of my drafts and that guy is one that I do not believe many have their sights on when he is available but looks to be a solid asset to a fantasy team at the spot he is being drafted. He is not a flashy player but is consistent as compared to any other player you can get in the later rounds of your fantasy drafts and can be that guy you can depend on during bye weeks and as a player to fill in for those injuries that almost every fantasy team must overcome.
The player I am about to discuss does have competition with a player who was drafted last year by his team but has not been able to stay healthy and is one that I have completely avoided while others are reaching for both in dynasty drafts last year and seasonal drafts this year hoping he will take their team to the next level. The other is an undrafted free agent signed by the Houston Texans in 2017 and has been bounced around the NFL ever since. If you are a Ronald Jones truther or a Dare Ogunbowale optimist then you are not going to like this prediction.
Now I’m not saying that Peyton Barber is going to be the next Saquon Barkley but I am saying that he is a great buy in the later rounds of fantasy drafts that has every chance to be that player that can be that roster depth with the potential to be that second running back in two running back leagues or a flex option in one running back leagues. At the very minimum, he provides solid roster depth which is what we are looking for at that point in a fantasy football draft. Considering where he is being drafted, I would not hesitate to draft him as a flex option as he very well could develop into more with Ronald Jones not showing the potential some had hoped he would at this point in his career.
Barber quietly amassed 870+ yards on the ground last year, gaining another 92 yards receiving while scoring 6 TDs. This is a contract year for Barber and he will fight for every snap he can get and I expect him to make the most of those touches. At 5’11, 225 lbs, he is the ideal size that I look for in a running back and the former Auburn product has every chance to take advantage of his opportunities this year which I fully expect him to do so. I’m willing to say that he will gain over 1100 total yards from scrimmage with 8 TDs. Not bad for a guy that can be had in the later rounds of seasonal and/or dynasty drafts as a bye week fill in.
