2020 NFL Mock Draft 1.0 (3 rounds)

Round 1 Picks 1-15

  1. Cincinnati Bengals Joe Burrow QB, LSU

This pick is pretty much locked in unless something dramatic happens. Burrow gives the Bengals the face of the franchise that they haven’t had in decades. He has all of the ability to step in day one and succeed for a long time. This is a franchise-changing pick.

  1. Washington Redskins Chase Young EDGE, Ohio State

Embed from Getty Images

Another slam dunk pick what is all but locked in unless a trade occurs. Chase Young is an absolute game wrecker off of the Edge. Young knows how to get to the quarterback and could be one of the best at doing it coming out in a few years. The Redskins just got the cornerstone of their defense.

  1. Detroit Lions Jeffrey Okudah CB, Ohio State

Embed from Getty Images

The Lions were 28th in the league against the pass and they may be losing their best defender in Darrius Slay leaving a huge hole in the secondary. Jeffrey Okudah is a step in the right direction, he’s a lockdown corner who has the ability to make plays on the ball when thrown his way. If the Lions do retain Slay this would give them a fantastic duo in the secondary.

4. New York Giants Jedrick Wills OT, Alabama

Embed from Getty Images

According to Football Outsiders, the Giants ranked 25th in the league in pass protection which is the opposite of what you want to see with a young signal-caller. Protecting Daniel Jones should be an absolute priotiry for the Giants and Jedrick Willis is a step I that direction. The big mauler of a tackle is someone the Giants can plug in the protect Jones’s blindside for a long time.

5. Miami Dolphins Tua Tagovailoa QB, Alabama

Embed from Getty Images

Tank for Tua was a movement in Miami when the season started and the Dolphins were losing in epic fashion, then it started turning around for the Dolphins getting some wins. Lucky for them though they have a fantastic chance of getting their wish unless a team trades up or someone makes an unexpected pick. The Dolphins get their franchise quarterback with enough picks and salary cap the build around him as they please.

6. Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert QB, Oregon

Embed from Getty Images

Phillip Rivers is on his way out and the Chargers and Justin Herbert fills the void. Herbert has all of the tools you want in a quarterback and if it wasn’t for a stacked class he’d be in the conversation for one overall. Herbert comes into a great situation surrounded by playmakers and should be able to have instant success in that offense.

7. Carolina Panthers Derrick Brown IDL, Auburn

The Panthers were one of the worst defenses in the league against the run, 143 rush yards allowed per game and a league worst 5.2 yards per attempt. Drafting Derrick Brown is a huge part of the solution. He has the ability to dominate the line, stop the run and penetrate into the backfield. Not only do the Panthers get the best available player they also get one who fits.

8. Arizona Cardinals Mekhi Becton OT, Louisville

Embed from Getty Images

Another case of protecting a young quarterback, last year Kyler Murray played well but was still running for his life. Building the line here makes sense, the Cardinals have a lot of young receivers and backs who give their offense some variation. Now Mekhi Becton comes in locks down the blind side. Becton is an absolute monster of a human who will devour incoming pass rushers and can push the pile in the run game.

9. Jacksonville Jaguars Isaiah Simmons LB, Clemson

Embed from Getty Images

The days of the Jaguars defense being a dominant force are gone and with the way they are built on offense centered on running the ball fixing that is a must. Isaiah Simmons is the ultimate move piece on defense. They can use him at linebacker and safety keeping him on the field at all times. He has the speed to cover slot receivers and the size to hang with tight ends. Mixing his ability in coverage with his sideline to sideline speed makes him a great weapon on defense.

10. Cleveland Browns Tristan Wirfs OT, Iowa

Embed from Getty Images

The Browns offensive line was already bad and now they lost their starting left tackle to off the field issues. This team desperately needs to get their offensive line in order so they don’t squander all of the weapons they have on offense. Tristan Wirfs is a plug-and-play tackle who is an immediately improves the offense.

11. New York Jets CeeDee Lamb WR, Oklahoma

Embed from Getty Images

The Jets have their quarterback and now it’s time for a big-time weapon. CeeDee Lamb gives them an alpha receiver who can do it all. He has big-play ability, can run after the catch, has strong hands, he can do it all. Lamb has produced his whole career at Oklahoma and pairing him with Sam Darnold gives Darnold the big-time target he’s been needing.

12. Oakland Raiders Jerry Jeudy WR, Alabama

Last season the Raiders tried to fill their void at receiver in free agency via Antonio Brown and it didn’t work out. Jerry Jeudy gives them the most polished receiver in the draft. He knows how to get open and create space for himself to make plays. In the open field, he’s elusive and can make defenders miss. Jeudy is a special receiver and will give the Raiders a dangerous new weapon.

13. Indianapolis Colts Jacob Eason QB, Washington

Embed from Getty Images

The Colts played very well with Jacoby Brissett who was a solid starter, with their division though solid may not be enough to get them to the next level. Jacob Eason has been going slightly under the radar but he is just beaming with upside. Eason has the arm strength to make all the throws, has no fear in putting the ball into tight windows and has shown the ability to make good decisions. Putting him in Indianapolis behind that line gives him the perfect situation to grow and Brissett is a great bridge quarterback until he’s ready. The Colts could bet upside here and really have it work out.

14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Andrew Thomas OT, Georgia

Embed from Getty Images

The entire Jameis Winston era was defined by terrible line play, with him taking hit after hit never giving him a fair chance. Adding offensive line here either give Winston or his predecessor a start to giving him protection. Thomas excels in both pass blocking and power running giving the Bucs a monster on the offensive line to help build it around.

15. Denver Broncos Kristian Fulton CB, LSU

Embed from Getty Images

The Broncos are in a division with some of the best quarterback play in the NFL facing Mahomes twice a year so improving on their secondary is essential. Yes they need another receiver across from Sutton but this draft is deep enough at the position where they can wait and grab a lockdown corner in the first. Fulton can man up, play zone and do it all. His length and athleticism will allow him to cover some of the tougher matchups out there. With the Broncos pass rush and the duo of Harris and Fulton would have this defense near elite status.

Round 2 Picks 16-32

16. Atlanta Falcons K’Lavon Chaisson EDGE, LSU

Embed from Getty Images

The Falcons desperately need pass rushers especially since they’re losing their best to free agency this year and Chaisson no only fills that need but he’s the type of EDGE defender the Falcons love. Chaisson is long, explosive, can run and get after the passer. He’ll be a guy who can make an impact immediately on the Falcons defense.

17. Dallas Cowboys Grant Delpit S, LSU

Embed from Getty Images

The Thorpe Award winner would be an instant impact on the Cowboys secondary. Delpit has the versatility to move around, play deep, play in the box and man cover both receivers and safeties. Not only could he make an impact immediately to the defense, after this season Xavier Woods becomes a free agent as well leaving even more of a hole in the secondary.

18. Miami Dolphins A.J. Epenesa EDGE, Iowa

Embed from Getty Images

The Dolphins have a ton of holes on their roster so they can afford to take the best available player which right here is at a premium position. Epenesa is a big-time power rusher who adds toughness to their defensive line. Epenesa can set the edge and make plays in the backfield making him a major piece to help improve the Dolphins defense.

19. Oakland Raiders C.J. Henderson CB, Florida

Embed from Getty Images

The Raiders are in desperate need for corner help and C.J. Henderson is a long athletic corner who has fantastic ball skills. Henderson is a little raw but has the skillset to develop into a CB1. The Raiders have a young team and a coach with patience. A guy with this skillset is worth waiting on to develop and can still make an impact now.

20. Jacksonville Jaguars Xavier McKinney S, Alabama

Embed from Getty Images

The Jaguars already started to get stronger up the middle of their defense by adding Simmons. McKinney gives them another versatile playmaker. McKinney will be a nice pairing with old teammate Ronnie Harrison on the back end of the Jags defense.

21. Philadelphia Eagles Henry Ruggs III WR, Alabama

The Eagles desperately need to add speed to their receiving corps and there isn’t anyone faster. Ruggs immediately adds an element of fear to an offense being he can score any time he gets the ball. The best part is Ruggs isn’t a one-trick pony, he can run multiple routes and is a killer in the short passing game.

22. Buffalo Bills Tee Higgins WR, Clemson

Tee Higgins is everything a young quarterback needs, he’s a high end playmaker with the ability to go up and get the ball in traffic. Higgins has strong hands the ability to box out defenders and runs well after the catch for a man of his size which makes him a dynamic weapon. Higgins will be a great compliment across from John Brown’s speed and should develop into Josh Allen’s favorite weapon.

23. New England Patriots Yetur Gross-Matos EDGE, Penn State

Embed from Getty Images

For as great as the Patriots defense was though when it came down to it later in the season they struggled to get to the quarterback. Yetur Gross-Matos is the type of player who brings the length and athleticism to get to the passer but more importantly is a high IQ player who the Patriots will love.

24. New Orleans Saints Kenneth Murray LB, Oklahoma

Embed from Getty Images

The Saints have had a solid defense as of late but still lack that explosive presence in the middle of the field. Kenneth Murray is an explosive athlete at the linebacker position who can make plays all over the field. He shows sideline to sideline speed, can rush the passer and coverage. He’s the type of player who can be a centerpiece to their defense for years to come. Conventional wisdom could say quarterback here with Jordan Love still on the board but the Saints are a team who can win now with Drew Brees so they need to go all in.

25. Minnesota Vikings Javon Kinlaw IDL, South Carolina

Embed from Getty Images

The Vikings always have a knack for landing guys in the draft who should have went much higher. Javon Kinlaw is that type of player. Kinlaw is a force in the middle of the defense being disruptive against both the pass and the run. Joining an already strong defensive line Kinlaw should be able to wreak havoc on defense for the Vikings.

26. Miami Dolphins Jonathan Taylor RB, Wisconsin

/p>

With their third pick in the first round, the Dolphins get one of the most prolific runners in college football history. Jonathan Taylor is the opposite of everything the Dolphins have seen at the running back position since when they had Ricky William. Taylor is a proven star at running back who can do it all. With Taylor, you see what you get and that’s production.

27. Seattle Seahawks Josh Jones OT, Houston

Embed from Getty Images

Every year every mock draft has the Seahawks taking an offensive lineman in hopes that they will make life easier for Russell Wilson. This year is no different except the team is starting to show that care by bringing in multiple skill position players for Russ. Josh Jones may be a bit of a reach here but he has a ton of upside and Seattle is a team who isn’t afraid to go after talent that they feel can make a difference.

28. Baltimore Ravens Patrick Queen LB, LSU

Embed from Getty Images

The Ravens defense really came around last year due mainly to outstanding secondary. At the linebacker position, they started two mid-season pickups from free agency. Queen is the type of explosive athlete the Ravens were missing at the linebacker position this year. While slightly undersized he is rangy, can cover and still thump offensive players. Queen is a difference-maker in the front seven who makes an instant impact.

29. Tennessee Titans Neville Gallimore IDL, Oklahoma

Embed from Getty Images

The Titans were a game away from making an improbable run at the Superbowl and have a lot of pieces on the offense that lean towards a win-now team. Neville Gilmore gives them a disruptive force up the middle that should be enough to get the Titans to a top tier defensive line.

30. Green Bay Packers Jalen Reagor WR, TCU

The Packers passing offense has been Davante Adams and a rotating group of mid-round picks for years now and its just not cutting it anymore. Jalen Reagor brings a playmaking ability that this offense has sorely missed. Reagor is a yards after catch machine who can score any time he touches the ball and gives Rodger the kind of weapon he hasn’t had in a long time.

31. San Francisco 49ers Jeff Gladney CB, TCU

Embed from Getty Images

The 49ers have one of the most well-rounded teams in the league which was proven last year by the amount of success they had which will allow them to not have to rush a young player. With Richard Sherman getting older and Jason Verrett a UDFA they are slimming out at the cornerback spot. Jeff Gladney is a long athletic corner who can go up and get the ball and aggressive enough to try to make a play with it. Adding some bulk and learning under Richard Sherman could be huge to a guy who could possibly take his spot in a year or so.

32. Kansas City Chiefs D’Andre Swift RB, Georgia

Yes Damien Williams should have won the MVP in the Superbowl and yes the Cheifs have a solid rotation at the running back position. That being said D’Andre Swift is a special talent who should have been long gone by this point of the draft. Swift’s skillset is built to succeed in this offense with speed, cutback ability, and good receiving skills. The addition of Swift to this offense should be terrifying for the rest of the league adding this kind of talent to the NFL’s most exciting offense.
