There are still plenty of decent options in free agency to make your team better. Don’t get caught being complacent with your current roster. The best managers are always looking for ways to make their team better. Choose the wrong guy and your season is over, choose the right guy and you just might sneak into the playoffs.  So put the high waiver rank to good use this week and add some of these guys to make your team better. Top Waiver Wire Adds for Week 9

NoHalftime Waiver Add of the Week: QB Ryan Tannehill (MIA)

I have been bullish on Tannehill for way too long now. It seems like every year there is high hopes for this guy and he does just enough every year to keep us hooked, but it’s never enough to meet the expectations we have for him. This is my last straw, I think. For the first time in Tannehill’s career has a running back producing AND a coach willing to use him. With Jay Ajayi running so well it takes a lot of pressure off of Tannehill. With a balanced offensive attach, defenses have to play honest and that should help Tannehill play better. Let’s not forget the elephant in the room here either, this week he faces off against the Jets, which gives any QB instant value. Only 21 percent of Yahoo leagues have him on a roster and with a number of top quarterbacks on bye this make Tannehill a great pickup and start for at least one week, and if the team can stay balanced maybe even more weeks.

RB Antone Smith (T.B.)

With news that Jacquizz Rodgers might not be ready on the short week the Bucs have a lot of people are looking at Peyton Barber  as the one to add. I am not one of those people. I know Barber had a good game two weeks ago, but lets put that game in perspective, it was against a very bad 49ers run defense in a game that was well in hand. If Doug Martin and Rodgers are both unable to go, which looks very possible, on Thursday night and you need a starting running back I would look to add Smith who is available in 99 percent of Yahoo leagues. Smith is familiar coach Dirk Koetter system from the three years they were together in Atlanta. To be clear Smith only holds value as long as Martin and Rodgers are both out. As soon as one comes back send Smith right back to free agency.

WR Kendall Wright (TEN)

Wright missed the first three games of the year due to injury, then took a couple of games to get back to game speed. Over his last three games Wright has managed 14 receptions, 229 yards and two touchdowns. Not bad for a fun first and run second offense. Wright is only owned in six percent of Yahoo leagues and with guys like Larry Fitzgerald, Alshon Jeffery, A.J. Green, and DeAndre Hopkins to name a few, all on bye some people might be looking for someone the can start this week. Wright has a good match up, he is being heavily used in the offense, and seems to have his quarterback’s trust. All things that make for a great add on a week that you might be short a wide receiver or two.

TE Austin Hooper (ATL)

Quick name all of the usable tight ends on bye this week. Zach Miller, Tyler Eifert, C.J. Fiedorowicz, Rob Gronkowski, Martellus Bennett, Jordan Reed, and Vernon Davis. That is a lot of tight ends not playing this week. Another tight end not playing this week is Jacob Tamme, who has already been ruled out for Thursday night’s game. So if your tight end is on bye this week I would look no further the Hooper. He is only owned in one percent of Yahoo leagues and can provide you an immediate fill at the tight end spot. Last week when Tamme went down, Hooper stepped right in and caught all five of his targets for 41 yards. In fact Hooper has caught every pass thrown his way this year. It looks like Matt Ryan already trusts Hooper and with no other real pass catching tight end on the roster that leaves tight ends looks for Hooper. He was one of my favorite sleeper tight ends this summer and I am excited to see him play a big role this week.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Josh McCown (CLE) – 3 percent owned – Did not have a great game but threw the ball almost 50 times last week and as long as he is throwing that much he will put up points.
  • Bilal Powell (NYJ) – 37 percent owned – His PPR is down this year, but as the season progresses the Jets might lean on Matt Forte and Powell more and more.
  • Charcandrick West (K.C) – 7 percent owned – If Spencer Ware cannot get cleared, West is the guy start here.
  • C.J. Prosise (SEA) – 2 percent owned – Most of his value comes in PPR and after 4 missed games, he is stepping right into his third down back role.
  • Tyreek Hill (K.C.) – 3 percent owned – If you get return yardage points this is a good one to own. He is getting more involved in the offense and a good returner.
  • Brian Quick (L.A.) – 7 percent owned – Nothing great but pretty steady. 19.5 yards a catch and 14 receptions on 24 targets over his last four games.
  • Eric Ebron (DET) – 37 percent owned – Missed the last three games and stepped right in like nothing happened. One Stafford favorite targets.
  • Lance Kendricks (L.A.) – 1 percent owned – 12 receptions and one TD on 17 targets in Rams last two games. Yards a little low, but PPR is holding is own.
  • JJ Nelson (ARI) – 2 – percent owned – BYE week special – Another guy that gets decent return yards and is now getting a bigger role in the offense.
  • Jay Cutler (CHI) – 7 – percent owned – BYE week special – Last week I said he would start auditioning for other teams and looks like he is. Pretty good playoff schedule might be worth a stash.
