DFS MLB FanDuel Cash Game Lineup Advice 5/9/17
Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the MLB FanDuel Cash Game Lineup article. Tonight we have 13 games to work with on this Tuesday night main slate. As always, be sure to check out the weather around the country as well as the team lineups as they are released. Let’s go ahead and take a look at my favorite cash game options for tonight’s slate.
Pitcher
Max Scherzer WAS: $11,600 @ BAL
Max Scherzer is picking up right where he left off after his 2016 Cy Young season. In his first six starts of 2017, Scherzer has a 11.29 K/9, has a 2.66 ERA and is only allowing a 20.2% hard contact percentage. The Orioles may appear to be a great offense on paper, but they have only been middle of the pack against right-handed pitchers this season with a 101 wRC+.
Carlos Carrasco CLE $10,300 @ TOR
Pitching is pretty ugly tonight so I really recommend paying up for either Max Scherzer or Carlos Carrasco in your cash game lineup tonight. Carrasco has been solid so far in 2017, with a 2.18 ERA and a respectable 8.49 K/9 in six starts. I believe that the Blue Jays’ bats will eventually come around this season, but currently they 26th in wRC+ and 9th in K% against right-handed pitchers this season.
Catcher
Gary Sanchez NYY: $3,200 @ CIN
Gary Sanchez has been excellent since returning from the DL on Friday afternoon against the Cubs. Sanchez and the Yankees have a decent matchup tonight against Tim Adleman, who has allowed a 0.364 wOBA and 50.0% hard contact rate to opposing right-handed hitters in 2017.
Stephen Vogt OAK: $2,300 vs. LAA
If you’re looking to punt at catcher tonight, consider using Stephen Vogt. Vogt has always been solid against right-handed pitchers over his career and he has a decent matchup tonight against Alex Meyer. Meyer has really struggled with his command in his first two starts of 2017 with a 8.22 BB/9. I believe that number will work itself down a little bit as the season progresses, but Meyer has had a history of issuing a ton of walks throughout his professional career.
First Base
Ryan Zimmerman WAS: $4,500 @ BAL
Ryan Zimmerman had a hitless game last night, but he has been one of the hottest hitters in all of baseball over the past couple of weeks. On the other hand, Ubabldo Jimenez has been a gas can over the past few seasons and I do not see how he contains the potent Nationals’ lineup tonight.
Logan Morrison TB: $2,900 vs. KC
If you’re going the value route at first base tonight, consider using Logan Morrison. Morrison has been outstanding so far this season against right-handed pitchers with a 0.379 wOBA and a 0.286 ISO in 97 plate appearances. Tonight he has an outstanding matchup against Chris Young of the Royals. This will be Young’s first start of the 2017, but he really struggled against left-handed hitters in 13 starts in 2016, allowing a 0.476 wOBA and a 4.14 HR/9.
Second Base
Daniel Murphy WAS: $4,200 @ BAL
Similar to Zimmerman, Daniel Murphy is in a great spot tonight against Jimenez, who I mentioned has really struggled over the past couple of seasons. Murphy currently has a 0.399 wOBA and a 0.202 ISO against right-handed pitchers this season.
Jed Lowrie OAK: $2,300 vs. LAA
It may seem like I’m chasing points here with Jed Lowrie after his double dong performance last night. However, Lowrie has been solid this season and his price continues to remain way too low for someone who hits in the two-hole.
Third Base
Jake Lamb ARI: $3,700 vs. DET
Jake Lamb has been outstanding against right-handed pitchers in 2017 with a 0.398 wOBA and a 0.278 ISO. Justin Verlander hasn’t been awful by any means this season, but we do not have to avoid him, especially with left-handed bats. Verlander has allowed a 0.336 wOBA and a hard contact rate of 37.1% to lefties so far in 2017.
Evan Longoria TB: $2,900 vs. TB
Another Rays’ bat who we can use tonight is Evan Longoria. Longoria is way too cheap given his skill set and the outstanding matchup against the aforementioned Chris Young of the Royals.
Shortstop
Zack Cozart CIN: $3,200 vs. NYY
Zack Cozart has been great so far in 2017 with an overall wOBA of 0.432 and an ISO of 0.237. Those numbers will likely regress eventually, but there is no reason to believe that tonight is the night that he cools off since he has a solid matchup against C.C. Sabathia. Sabathia has struggled against right-handed hitters this season, allowing a 0.363 wOBA.
Trea Turner WAS: $3,800 @ BAL
Another Nationals’ hitter who we can use to pick on Jimenez tonight is Trea Turner. Turner has been solid against right-handed pitchers this season with a 0.343 wOBA. Out of all of the Nationals’ hitters who I have mentioned, Turner is my favorite option for cash games since he has the capability of stealing multiple bases.
Outfielders

Andrew Benintendi BOS: $4,100/ Mookie Betts BOS: $4,100 @ MIL
Both Red Sox outfielders are in play tonight, with the slight edge to Benintendi. The roof at Miller Park will likely be closed tonight, which means it will be a great hitters’ environment. Wily Peralta has really struggled so far this season and the Red Sox should have no problem knocking him around tonight.
Adam Duvall CIN: $3,700 vs. NYY
I have already mentioned how C.C. has struggled against right-handed hitters and Adam Duvall has excelled against lefties with a ridiculous 0.575 wOBA and an outstanding 0.650 ISO in a limited sample size this season.
Jacoby Ellsbury NYY: $3,100/ Brett Gardner NYY: $3,500 @ CIN
Unless you have been living under a rock, you should know that the Yankees have been the hottest team in all of baseball lately. Both Ellsbury and Gardner are in play tonight against Adleman, who I already mentioned has struggled this season.
