Lance McCullers

McCullers is the clear top option on Friday, but he’ll cost the most as well. He faces the Padres, who will add a DH, but are a poor offense this season. McCullers has elite strikeout upside and will be a staple in my lineups. He’s the largest favorite and has the lowest OTT (see pitcher chart). You can pay down to be different in tournaments, but McCullers will be very highly owned in cash games.

Kyle Hendricks

Hendricks will face the Brewers in Miller Park. The Brewers will not strike out as much this year as they did last year, but they still have a few Ks in their lineup. Hendricks is a moderate favorite, with one of the lower OTTs on the slate. I’m not excited to play him in tournaments, because I’m not sure he has the strikeouts to win a GPP, but it’s worth looking at him as an expensive SP2 on DraftKings when there aren’t many other solid options.

Hitters

Mike Trout

Trout will face Daniel Gossett and costs $5,500 on DraftKings, but is still the clear top option. Trout is the best hitter in baseball, and Gossett has a low strikeout rate. I like games where I know my players will at least put the ball in play, and with this low strikeout rate, I feel confident Trout will put 3-4 baseballs in play. The floor is solid and the upside is there, so even as the most expensive hitter, I’m starting my cash games with Trout.

Anthony Rizzo

Rizzo disappointed last night, but the process was solid if you played him. Miller Park is great for lefty power, and when the Brewers have average pitchers throwing almost every night, they will be a team to pick on with lefty power bats. Rizzo will face Brandon Woodruff who has a solid strikeout rate, but is still susceptible to the home run ball. I’m not sure if I’ll have the salary to fit Rizzo into my cash game lineups, but he’s a great tournament play.

Blue Jays Bats

The Blue Jays are one of the most frustrating offenses in the league right now. They continue to be in great spots this year, but have disappointed in quite a few of those spots. I’m going to continue to trust the numbers, especially since most of the Blue Jays are still priced below $4K on DraftKings. The Blue Jays will face Matt Moore in Globe Life Park, and it looks like there will be strong winds there. Watch the wind direction, and if it’s blowing out, it could be a huge game for both sides. Josh Donaldson is the top Blue Jays bat, and might be worth the price even in cash games. The rest of the bats can fit as a stack in tournaments, or used as value bats for cash games. Russell Martin, Devin Travis, Curtis Granderson, Steve Pearce, and Randal Grichuk will all make appearances in my lineups assuming they’re in the batting order.
