Pitchers

For my Hitter picks and analysis, click NEXT!

Stephen Strasburg

Strasburg is the premiere pitching option on the Monday slate. He’s priced at $13,600, but is only worth fading in tournaments. Strasburg will face the Padres in Petco Park. He’s the second largest favorite and has an OTT (see pitcher chart) of 2.5. The Padres have the highest strikeout rate in the league at 27.3%. At his price, I understand the fade in tournaments, but Strasburg is a lock in cash games.

Kyle Hendricks

Hendricks is a better real life pitcher than a fantasy pitcher. He has a moderate strikeout rate, limiting his upside in fantasy. The Marlins strike out at the 11th highest rate in the league, which only helps the upside a little. The safety for cash games comes with Hendricks’ ability to prevent runs on Monday. He’ll get a huge park upgrade traveling to Marlins Park, and the Marlins have the lowest wRC+ in the majors.

Dallas Keuchel

Keuchel will face the Athletics in the Coliseum. The Athletics have the 8th highest strikeout rate, but the Coliseum suppresses strikeouts. I like Keuchel as a tournament play, because even with the park, Keuchel has more strikeout upside than Hendricks. In case Strasburg blows up and more than 50% of the field is on him, using Keuchel as your SP1 in tournaments in an intriguing strategy.

Hitters

Brandon Belt/Giants

Belt will face Zach Eflin in Citizens Bank Park. He’ll have the platoon advantage, and gets a big park upgrade. Only Bryce Harper projects for more DK points than Belt on Monday, and Belt costs just $4,100. Belt also has the highest home run projection among first base options. I like a full Giants stack in tournaments, and am considering Buster Posey, Gregor Blanco, and Andrew McCutchen in my cash games. If you’re paying up for two ace pitchers, you may need to consider Brandon Crawford as well.

Jay Bruce/Michael Conforto/Mets

Bruce and Conforto are two of my favorite outfield options. They’ll face Homer Bailey in Great American Ballpark. The Mets have the second-highest team run total, and their power lefties project well against Bailey. Both Bruce and Conforto have struggled recently, and usually I would avoid cold players like this, but on a seven game slate, their value is too good to pass up. Asdrubal Cabrera is also in play at second base for cash games, and I don’t mind adding Todd Frazier to a Mets stack in tournaments. Most of my cash and tournament lineups will consist of Mets and Giants lefties.
