Gio Gonzalez

Gonzalez will face the Padres in Nationals Park. He’s a heavy favorite and has the second lowest OTT (see pitcher chart) on the slate. The Padres strike out 26.3% of the time, highest rate in the league. It’s a good matchup for Gonzalez, but he’s priced at $11,900. The price makes me hesitant, especially in tournaments. Gonzalez is a good bet for 18-23 DK points, but I’d be surprised to see him with a ceiling game of 30+ points.

Masahiro Tanaka

Tanaka will face the Rangers in Globe Life Park. The Rangers strike out 26.3% of the time, tied with the Padres for the highest rate in the league. The Rangers also have the third lowest wRC+ in the league. Tanaka is priced affordably, but is risky for cash games due to his inconsistency this season. I will have tournament shares of Tanaka and may end up with him as my SP2, but I’d like to see the Rangers lineup before plugging him into my cash game lineup.

Jose Berrios

Berrios will likely be the highest owned player on Monday. He’ll face the Tigers in Target Field. The Tigers don’t strike out often, but some of that is their home park suppresses strikeouts. Berrios is a big favorite and is tied with Gonzalez and Tanaka for the second lowest OTT. The more righties the Tigers plug into their lineup, the better play this will be, and I currently have Berrios locked into my cash game lineup.

Hitters

Yankees Bats

The Yankees will face Bartolo Colon in Globe Life Park. They have a team run total of 5.5, highest on the slate. Colon has pitched well this season sporting a 0.84 WHIP and a 2.82 ERA. Part of his low WHIP is his ability to limit walks this season (0.71 BB/9 compared to his career average 2.48 BB/9). Also, his BABIP is sitting at 0.204, meaning he’s been lucky preventing hits to start the year. Even with his low WHIP and ERA, Colon has allowed 1.59 HR/9, giving the Yankees some power upside. If regression hits and Colon gives up some base runners, it could be a great day to be on the Yankees bats. I currently have Gary Sanchez and Giancarlo Stanton locked into my cash game lineup, and have multiple Yankees stacks in tournaments.

Paul Goldschmidt

Goldschmidt is having a tough start to the season, batting just 0.205 with only five home runs. He’s striking out 31.3% of the time, almost ten percentage points higher than his career average. Through these struggles, his price has dropped to $4,200 on DraftKings. It’s difficult to pass up Goldschmidt (even a cold Goldschmidt) at that price. He’ll face Chase Anderson, a reverse-splits pitcher. Anderson has given up a career 0.298 wOBA to lefties and a 0.346 wOBA to righties. There are a few other first baseman in play (Freddie Freeman, Jose Abreu), so if you want to pass on Goldschmidt in cash games, you can, however you should at least have him in a tournament or two at his price.

Manny Machado

Machado will have the platoon advantage as he faces Hector Santiago in Guaranteed Rate Field. With a 5.21 SIERA and a .423 wOBA to righties, it’s hard to find a better matchup for Machado than the one he’ll have against Santiago on Monday. Machado has the highest hit projection, home run projection, and fantasy point projection among shortstops, making him a tough fade, even at his $5,600 price tag.
