Kenta Maeda

Maeda will face the Phillies in Dodger Stadium. The Phillies take a park hit and strike out at the 4th highest rate in the league. Maeda is a big favorite and has an OTT (see pitcher chart) of three, lowest on the slate. Maeda has been incredible recently scoring 36.8 and 39.4 DK points in his last two starts. I don’t expect 30+, but I do expect Maeda to reach value at his $10,800 salary. I’m currently considering Maeda for both cash games and tournaments.

Tyson Ross

Ross will face the Marlins in Petco Park. The Marlins have the 12th highest strikeout rate in the league but rank 28th in wRC+. Ross is a big favorite as well and has an OTT of three, tied with Maeda for the lowest on the slate. For $9,500, Ross is firmly in play for tournaments and is a fringe cash game option.

Danny Duffy

Duffy will face the Twins in Kauffman Stadium. The Twins are in the middle of the pack in strikeout rate, but rank 24th in wRC+. Duffy is a slight underdog and has an OTT of 4.5. It’s not a great matchup, but this is more about the price than the matchup or the pitcher. Duffy is priced at $4,000, the same price we pay for relievers on DraftKings. He’s a league average pitcher, but is priced as the worst on the slate. With a Coors Field game on the slate, I’m considering Duffy in both cash games and tournaments.

Hitters

Coors Bats

With Duffy as your SP2, you’re able to load up on Coors bats. The Rockies have a team run total of six while the Giants have a team run total of five. The Giants will face lefty Kyle Freeland. If you take out Gary Sanchez (who’s more expensive) and the other Coors catchers, Posey projects for nearly two more points than the next best option. At $4,200, Buster Posey is a lock at the catcher position. In the outfield, Andrew McCutchen is one of the best values on the slate at $3,700. Evan Longoria is a solid tournament play, but I’ll have Nolan Arenado in cash games. The Rockies will face Jeff Samardzija. Charlie Blackmon is the top play on the slate, followed by Arenado. I’m locking both of them into my cash game lineup. Trevor Story is a near lock as well. David Dahl and Carlos Gonzalez are both interesting and are cash game viable, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to fit them in my personal lineups with so many outfielders in great spots. I’ll have tournament exposure, but in cash games, I prefer McCutchen at a similar price point, and I prefer to pay up because I have the salary to do so.

Bryce Harper

Harper will face Dylan Bundy in Camden Yards. Bundy gives up plenty of fly balls, and has also given up 2.01 HR/9 this season. Harper has the highest home run projection on the slate, giving him tournament upside. I also think Harper will be slightly lower owned considering there are many affordable Coors outfielders to pay for. At $5,300, Harper is affordable, and is in play for both cash games and tournaments.
