Pitchers

Shohei Ohtani

Ohtani will face the Royals in Angel Stadium. He’s the biggest favorite on the slate and has the lowest OTT (see pitcher chart). While the Royals have the lowest strikeout rate in the league, Ohtani has his own strikeout upside built it. I don’t expect Ohtani to get 10+ punch outs, but 6-8 seems likely. The price is a bit high for Ohtani, but I’m currently considering him for both cash games and tournaments.

Jon Gray

Gray will face the Reds in Great American Ballpark. It’s actually a park upgrade for Gray, but he still has an OTT of four. He’s a moderate favorite, but I’m really just betting on the talent. Gray is a talented pitcher and as an SP2 on DraftKings, he costs just $7,500. This puts him firmly in play in cash games and tournaments.

Carlos Carrasco/Mike Foltynewicz

On the early slate, the two highest priced pitchers are Carrasco and Foltynewicz. At first glance, Foltynewicz is incredibly overpriced. At the same time, he’s been very good this season and had a career game his last time out. He’ll face the Padres who have the third highest strikeout rate in the league. I like Foltynewicz as a tournament play, but at his price will avoid him in cash games.

Carrasco is the opposite. At first glance, he’s priced fairly against the Brewers, but he’s struggled this season. He hasn’t topped 20 DK points since April with the exception of a 47.2 DK point performance against…the Brewers. Milwaukee will add a DH in this game, but Carrasco has an OTT of 3.5 and is a heavy favorite. I prefer Carrasco in cash games, but he also has enough upside for tournaments.

Hitters

Brian Dozier/Miguel Sano

The Twins will face Hector Santiago in Target Field. They have an OTT of five and Santiago has a SIERA of over five for the third straight season. It’s a great matchup for the Twins’ power righties as Santiago allows a ton of fly balls and home runs. He’s given up 2.08 HR/9 so far this season. Both Dozier and Sano are priced reasonably and have immense upside. They each have the highest home run projection at their position. I’m currently playing both in cash games and will be overweight on them in tournaments.

Joey Gallo

Gallo will face Daniel Mengden in Globe Life Park. It’s hot and humid in Arlington, giving an advantage to the hitters. Gallo will have the platoon advantage and has a top three home run projection on the entire slate. Mengden has limited walks and pitched fairly well this year, but has a low strikeout rate. Gallo is plagued by strikeouts, so any time I can get Gallo with the platoon advantage against a low strikeout pitcher at a reasonable price, I’ll take a shot in cash games.

Athletics Bats

The A’s will face Bartolo Colon in Globe Life Park. As with Gallo, the weather is great for hitting and Colon is a pitcher I’ve been targeting this season. Colon has a low strikeout rate as well and projects to allow almost 2 HR/9 this year. The A’s have a team run total of 5.5 and are one of the top offenses of the day. Matt Joyce is a near lock in cash games at $3,400, and I’m also considering Marcus Semian and Khris Davis. Matt Olson stands out as an upside play, and I’ll have some variations of A’s stacks in tournaments.
