2019 Week 8 Sit/Start Advice

The Fanatics Sit/Start Advice for Week 8

There has been some major upheaval in the NFL these days. Big named fantasy players are getting injured or traded, opening up opportunity for some while shutting it down for others.  Fantasy owners have major decisions to make, and they are looking for some help. This week, we shall clear away some of the rubble, and hopefully point you in the direction to win your fantasy match-up. Welcome to Start/Sit.

Quarterback

The Fanatics Starts of the Week

Josh Allen (BUF) vs PHI

Allen just had his best game of the year going against the expansion team known as Miami  and he has another favorable match-up this week against the Eagles. The Eagles defense is Swiss cheese right now, and Allen should be able to hookup with John Brown and Cole Beasley with ease. Allen has scored at least 20 Fantasy points in three of his past five games, and that trend should continue this week. Start him with confidence.

Other Starts

  • Jared Goff (LAR) vs CIN
  • Teddy Bridgewater (NO) vs ARI

The Fanatics Sits of the Week

Baker Mayfield (CLE) @ NE

Mayfield has had a week to think about his upcoming opponent, and it wont matter. The Patriots defense is amazing, having allowed just five scoring drives, four yards per play and leads the NFL in interceptions with 18. Mayfield has been struggling mightily this year, and going to New England will be more of the same. The Patriots caused Sam Darnold to have a negative fantasy game last week, and while you shouldn’t expect that from Baker, he won’t be doing much better. Find literally anyone else.

Other Sits

  • Philip Rivers (LAC) @ CHI
  • Carson Wentz (PHI) @ BUF

Running Back

Ty Johnson (DET) vs NYG

Welcome to full time RB duties, Ty.  Ty Johnson should inherit the majority of the 19.2 touches that Kerryon Johnson was averaging through Detroit’s first six games of the season. It;s true that he should share the load with J.D. McKissic, but he should have major stand alone value, especially in standard leagues.  He’s facing a Giants defense was just shredded by Chase Edmonds to the tune of 148 total yards and three touchdowns.

Other Starts

  • Sony Michel (NE) vs CLE
  • Chase Edmonds (ARI) @ NO

The Fanatics Sits of the Week

Melvin Gordon (LAC) @ CHI

Gordon was having a decent day till he coughed up a fumble at the goal line last week. Even though he had a receiving touchdown, he still ended up with a brutal fantasy day of only nine points. The Chargers offensive line is having issues, and the game plan may involve Austin Ekeler more. Gordon should be worth nothing more than a low end flex spot this week, and hopefully he rights the ship soon.

Other Sits

  • Jordan Howard (PHI) @ BUF
  • Damien Williams (KC) vs GB

Wide Receiver

The Fanatics Starts of the Week

John Brown (BUF) vs PHI

Brown has been targeted at least 5 times in every game this year and has at least 50 yards in each contest. Now he gets to face the Eagles and as mentioned in the Josh Allen piece above, he is in line for a big day. In his game last week, Brown had 83 yards and a touchdown, numbers that he should match up too an exceed as he can use his deep speed to crush the Eagles slow secondary. He should be started in all formats.

Other Starts

  • Courtland Sutton (DEN) vs ATL
  • Corey Davis (LAR) vs ATL

The Fanatics Sits of the Week

Alshon Jeffery (PHI) @ BUF

Notice a theme yet? The Eagles were a huge letdown on offense against Dallas, and this should be another tough game for this week against a Bills secondary. Jeffery was indeed part of that mess of a game, as he only caught 2 balls for 38 yards. Buffalo allows the fourth-fewest Fantasy points to opposing receivers, and the Bills have only allowed two receiving TDs this year. Perhaps Jeffery still isn’t fully healthy, and is only playing for the lack of options in the Eagles passing game, but whatever the reason, he is best left on your bench this week.

Other Sits

  • Odell Beckham (CLE) @ NE
  • Devante Parker (MIA) @ PIT

Tight End

The Fanatics Starts of the Week

Gerald Everett (LAR) vs CIN

Everett has had a breakout year this season. He has emerged as a go-to option for the Rams, and he’s worth starting in all leagues in Week 8. He’s now scored at least 15 PPR points in three of his past four games, and is being heavily targeted in the passing game. He had four catches for 50 yards and a touchdown on 10 targets in Week 7. Look for him to have another huge game against the weak LB corps of the Bengals. Start him in all formats.

  • OJ Howard (TB) @ TEN
  • Jonnu Smith (TEN) vs TB

The Fanatics Sits of the Week

Greg Olsen (CAR) @ SF

Olsen is no longer the fantasy stalwart at TE that he used to be. The 49ers have been stingy against tight ends all season, with no tight end having more than 32 receiving yards against them. Olsen has been petering out as of late, as he has only been able to muster 11 points in PPR formats over the last three weeks. Olsen should be left on your bench, and with another down week, fantasy owners should start looking at the wire to replace him.

Other Sits

  • Zach Ertz (PHI) @ BUF
  • Noah Fant (LAR) vs ATL

Defense

The Fanatics Starts of the Week

Rashaan Evans (TEN) vs TB

Evans has broken out in a major way since taking over for an injured Jayon Brown a couple weeks ago. Evans has  racked up 55 tackles and has played a majority of the defensive snaps on the team since getting his first start.,  Evans leads the team in tackles so far the season and gets the Buccaneers who given up the fifth most fantasy points to opposing linebackers. Evans should be started in every league.

Other Starts

  • Yannick Ngakoue (JAX) vs NYJ

The Fanatics Sits of the Week

Fletcher Cox (PHI) @ BUF

Cox has been a major disappointment this year, both in real life and as a fantasy asset. Cox has only had 17 total tackles this year. He now has only one sack in the first seven games of the season. He has barely put any pressure on the QB, and the injuries to the Eagles interior pass rush means teams can single him out. Unless the Eagles get some reinforcements along the defensive line, expect Cox to remain invisible on the stat sheet.

Other Sits

  • Kenny Vaccaro (DEN) vs ATL
