Fantasy Football: Keep ‘Em or Cut ‘Em – Week 4

Three weeks down! Is it just me or is this season going by way too fast already? Injuries continued to mount with Chris Carson, Russel Gage and Dallas Goedert finding themselves added to the ever-growing list this past week. Who should you keep or cut? Let’s read on…

DeSean Jackson – Philadelphia Eagles WR (2 receptions for 11 yards)

Let’s face it. The Eagles are off to a rough start this year. Injuries, a lost QB and a tie. What else could go wrong? Before week three, Jackson already accumulated 16 targets in two games to start the year. That’s a guy that I want to stash on my bench as bye weeks begin and injuries continue to occur. DeSean faced a hamstring injury himself this past week, but it has already been said that his injury is considered not “too serious.” Verdict: Keep ‘Em

Russell Gage – Atlanta Falcons WR (2 receptions for 26 yards)

I was hoping for more from Gage this week, especially given the fact that Julio Jones sat out with a hamstring injury. However, it was a letdown performance from Gage but I urge you to not drop him this week out of spite. Gage left the game midway through the first half and was ruled out with a concussion. Matt Ryan is currently 4th in pass attempts and will most likely lead the league this season. Russell Gage will get more opportunities coming his way to add to his 24 targets already and the pass friendly defenses (Vikings, Lions, Broncos) coming up in the next few weeks will help too! Verdict: Keep ‘Em

Benny Snell Jr – Pittsburgh Steelers RB (7 carries for 11 yards)

Time changes all. Two weeks ago, we were blowing 50% of our FAB and using our top waiver priority on Benny Snell. In the past two weeks, however, Snell has 10 carries for 16 yards and 1 fumble to his name. It’s clear that this is James Conner’s team and his role to lose. Yes, he is injury prone. But don’t waste a spot on your bench right now for Snell. He has done absolutely nothing with his opportunities. It’s time to let go. Verdict: Cut ‘Em

Joe Mixon – Cincinnati Bengals RB (17 carries for 49 yards; 2 receptions for 16 yards)

I had faith in Joe Mixon. I did. I was touting him as a top 10 RB this season. I love the guy. But I am concerned. I know the Bengals are working with a rookie QB who is learning the system, but Mixon is struggling. In three games, Mixon has rushed 52 times for 164 yards, which comes out to a measly 3.2 average. I propose you cut him loose, but not to waivers. Dangle Mixon out to an RB needy owner as trade bait while you can and see what you can get for him. But don’t waste your time on Mixon anymore! Verdict: Cut ‘Em (Trade Bait!)

James White – New England Patriots RB (Did Not Play)

Unfortunately, James White lost his dad in a tragic car accident and his mom remains in critical condition. As a result, White has missed the last two games and Rex Burkhead scored 3 TDs this past week in his place. But I wouldn’t give up on White just yet. He will be back at some point this season and this will allow Cam Newton to continue to adjust to his new team and offense. Remember, in week one, White saw 3 targets out of the backfield. Rex Burkhead has seen 16 targets in the past 2 games. I expect White’s targets will increase when he returns to the lineup. Verdict: Keep ‘Em

Dion Lewis – New York Giants RB (1 carry for 0 yards; 1 reception for 10 yards)

If you grabbed Dion Lewis in hopes that he would fill in for Saquon Barkley, I am here to ruin your parade. I am staying far away from that Giant’s backfield. This past week, Lewis, Devonta Freeman and Wayne Gallman combined for 17 yards on the ground. 17 yards! The Giants signed Devonta to assist with RB duties and although he didn’t do a whole lot, we saw him on the field a lot more than Lewis. I don’t see Dion playing a big enough role to warrant a spot on your bench. You can let him go. Verdict: Cut ‘Em
