Fantasy Football: Keep ‘Em or Cut ‘Em – Week 9

We are officially halfway through the NFL season! Is it just me, or did that go super fast? Depending on your league setup, this means that you have five or six games left before the fantasy playoffs begin! If you’re sitting at 6-2 or 5-3, you’re feeling pretty good right now and tweaking your rosters, prepping for a championship run. If you’re sitting at 2-6 or 3-5, all hope is not lost. It’s not over yet. Make some trades. Wheel and deal. Hit the waiver wire as soon as possible! Let’s dive in and look at who you should think about keeping on your roster for another week or cutting and not looking back!

Ezekiel Elliott – Dallas Cowboys RB (19 carries for 63 yards; 1 reception for 10 yards)

Let’s face it. When Dak Prescott went down with an injury in week five, the Cowboys offense hasn’t looked the same. Since week five, the Cowboys have only scored one TD, when Amari Cooper caught a 1 yard TD pass from Andy Dalton. Now Andy Dalton is on the COVID list and the Cowboys are left with starters at QB that no one has ever heard of. Zeke has struggled most of this season, failing to rush for 100 yards in any game this year. If it wasn’t for his 6 total TDs, we would be scratching our heads even more! But now’s not the time to panic. The offense still runs through Zeke and the Cowboys should continue to feed him, assuming their defense can contain opponents to an extent, which is another story for another time! Verdict: Keep ‘Em

Joshua Kelley – Los Angeles Chargers RB (7 carries for 32 yards; 1 reception for -7 yards)

I have waited weeks and weeks for the breakout game from Kelley, while Austin Ekeler has been out with a hamstring injury…but it’s not happening. And I don’t think it will. Justin Jackson appears to be the 1b here in an offense that now flows through Justin Herbert and Keenan Allen. Kelley saw his fewest carries of the season last week, while Jackson carried the load with 17 carries out of the backfield. Ekeler should be returning in a few weeks and at that point, Kelley will just be a distant memory. Verdict: Cut ‘Em

Matt Breida – Miami Dolphins RB (4 carries for 13 yards)

Matt Breida only has 128 yards on the ground this year and 79 yards receiving. But news broke earlier this week with Myles Gaskin landing on IR after spraining his MCL. If you have Matt Breida on your bench, it can’t hurt to hold onto him and see what opportunities he sees for the next three weeks. If anything, maybe he gets you through some other injury and bye week fill-ins! Verdict: Keep ‘Em

Leonard Fournette – Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB (15 carries for 52 yards; 3 receptions for 19 yards)

Are we starting to see a changing of the guard at RB? Bruce Arians has exclaimed all season that Ronald Jones is the starting RB for this team. However, after a key fumble early in the game this past week, Uncle Lenny ended up playing 51 snaps, compared to the 17 that Jones played. This could be an RBBC for a week or two, but I see this leaning towards Fournette taking the reigns just in time for your playoff run. Keep him and if you can, grab those shares now! Verdict: Keep ‘Em

Emmanuel Sanders – New Orleans Saints WR (Did not play. on COVID-19 List)

Unfortunately, you may have already dropped Sanders as he missed the last two games due to being on the COVID-19 list. However, if you haven’t dropped Manny Sanders just yet, now is the time to do so. Michael Thomas is scheduled to return any day now and Alvin Kamara appears to be Drew Brees #2 WR! Don’t forget about Jared Cook either! There are many mouths to feed and Sanders will be left out of many of those targets. You can safely cut and go scour the waiver wire for a high upside WR or TE instead! Verdict: Cut ‘Em

Carson Wentz – Philadelphia Eagles QB (15/27 for 123 yards, 2 TD/2 INT/2 FL; 4 carries for 17 yards)

Did you give up on Wentz yet? If so, good for you. I’m here to tell you that it’s time. It’s time to move on to so many other QB prospects. Carson Wentz has struggled to find his rhythm all season and he committed 4 turnovers on Sunday night. For the season, Carson now has committed 16 turnovers (12 INT and 4 FL)! Even if you’re in a 2 QB league or deep leagues, you can do better. Verdict: Cut ‘Em
