Philadelphia Eagles 2024 Overall NFL Draft Grade

Rd. 1 pick 22: Quinyon Mitchell CB Toledo

The Eagles considered taking DB Cooper Dejean with this however somehow someway Quinyon Mitchell was still available when most considered him to be a Top 12-15 pick. The Eagles didn’t have to trade up to go get their guy which was huge. Mitchell won’t be a slot CB this season. He is going to start as a rookie and make play after play as he did in college alongside CB Darius Slay. This pick makes CB James Bradberry expendable whether for a day 3 2025 NFL Draft pick or as a post-June 1 cut. Quyon Mitchell is much better. This one is pretty easy. Grade: A+

Rd. 2 pick 40: Dejean Cooper

The Eagles were highly considering drafting Cooper at 22 yet somehow got one of the top DBs in the entire draft in the second round. He can play slot CB in case CB Avonte Maddox gets hurt again. He can play outside CB and both FS and SS and can even line up as an LB on certain downs. He gives the Eagles an uber-talented athlete who will make a lot of great plays. I don’t know if he starts at any one given position as a rookie. He’ll start in year two. That said he will get a ton of snaps and contribute as a difference-maker on defense as a rookie. He gives me C.J. Garder Johnson vibes and a young Malcolm Jenkins. The only difference is that he hits harder. Grade A+

Rd. 3 pick 94: LB/DE Jalxy Hunt Houston Christain

I don’t know about this one. New Eagles DC Vic Fangio wanted him and he got his way. He had a decent career at a D2 school. I did feel like there were better players on the board. The good news (very likely) is that he doesn’t have to come in and compete right away. He can learn for a year and complete for snaps in 2025…I think at best he’s a rotational player which isn’t a bad thing. Grade: C

Rd. 4 pick 127 RB Will Shipley Clemson. I love this pick. I think Shipley has the talent to be a good RB2 and future starter. He reminds me of Darren Sproles only he can also run the football 20 times a game if need be. He’s more quick than fast but that’s more than ok with the Eagles O-Line. He is a great receiving back (far better than Kenny Gainwell) a quick jump-cut type of runner and a great competitor. I’m calling it…This kid is going to get touches as a rookie behind RB1 Saquon Barkley as a rookie. RB Kenny Gainwell will soon be RB3 in the rotation. Grade: A

Rd no 5 no 152: WR Ainias Smith Texas Aggies

He has starting Slot WR as a rookie written all over him. I think WRs Devante Parker and Parris Cambell are depth players due to this addition to the roster. He’s very fast, runs a great route tree, is a very fierce competitor and team player. The more tape I watched the more impressed I became. the only knock on him is that he’s 5ft9 or 5ft10…I don’t understand why that matters when the kid can flat-out play. He’s a damn good football player. He’s very intelligent as well, along with a great skill set. He’s a weapon, and he will play where he is best suited as the Eagles WR3 starting slot WR. Grade A

Rd. 5 No. 155: LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr.

LB Clemson! The son of the Philadelphia Eagles hard-hitting Hall Of Fame LB. A legacy pick! Which is damn special. I love the story here. The first question I asked myself was ok that’s awesome, but can the kid play? The answer is heck yeah! He was Clemson’s best defensive player throughout his college career. He hits hard like his old man used to, he can blitz the QB as he had a ton of sacks, and he has a nose for bringing down opposing RBs in the backfield for huge losses. He does one thing better than his father…he can drop back in coverage as he had 5 interceptions for Clemson. He had 15 TFLs in 2023 and 2 Defensive TDs. Jeremiah Trotter and RB Will Shipley will both make Clemson proud as rookies for the Eagles this season. Did I mention that many draft experts including myself had him going in rounds 2 or 3? What a steal! Draft Grade: A+ He’ll be a fan favorite since day one.

Rd. 6 no. OL/OG Trevor Keegan Michigan

He figures to be a backup OL for a year or two. Draft Grade B

Rd. 6 pick no 185: WR/TE Johnny Wilson Florida

He’s a solid WR4 or WR5 with potential down the road if the Eagles keep him at WR. 6ft7 is rather big for a WR who runs a 4.5 40-yard dash. As a WR I would give Wilson a C or B. That said, I don’t think the Eagles plan to keep him in that position. They may announce it at Training Camp…I’m pretty confident the Eagles are going to switch him into a TE and as a TE with the potential with his raw abilities he should be the team’s TE3 as a rookie, the team’s TE2 in 2025, and if he stays healthy an excellent starting TE in two to three years after TE Dallas Goedert is no longer an Eagle. Draft Grade as a WR: C Draft Grade as a TE: B+

The Eagle’s last draft choice this year: pick no. 190: C Dylan McMahon N.C. State. Yet another project who likely won’t see the field as a rookie. Solid dept pick: Draft Grade: C+
