Is Philadelphia Eagles New OC Kellen Moore a Fantasy Godsend?
The new offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles is Kellen Moore. Do you remember him? He made Dak Prescott’s fantasy relevant for a few years before being unceremoniously dismissed from the Dallas Cowboys. Then he spent one uneventful year with Justin Herbert before the wheels completely fell off in LA. Now he is in Philadelphia. Are we expecting a fantasy windfall here?
Kellen Moore, Offensive Coordinator, Philadelphia Eagles
Moore spent last season as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers. Before that, he had spent five years with the Dallas Cowboys. For four of those years he was the offensive coordinator and in two of those seasons (2020-2022), Moore called the offensive plays.

The Charges last season faced a lot of injuries, including Mike Williams and Justin Herbert. But Moore still managed to productivity out of players.
- Wide receiver Keenan Allen set a franchise record and ranked sixth for receptions (108). Allen averaged 95.6 yards per game while finishing with 1,243 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
- Quarterback Justin Herbert had the sixth-best touchdown to interception ratio (2.9) and the ninth-most passing touchdowns (20) through Week 14. In Week 14 Herbert broke his finger and was out for the rest of the season.
Still in his 13 complete games, Herbert finished with 3,134 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, seven interceptions, 228 rushing yards, and three rushing touchdowns.
Moore was even able to get value out of backup quarterback Easton Stick. In Stick’s five games, he finished with 1,129 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Stick also had one rushing touchdown and 144 rushing yards.
Moore and the Dallas Cowboys
With Moore calling plays in 2021, the Cowboys led the league in scoring (30.4ppg). They also averaged 401.4 yards per game.
In 2022, play-calling year, the Cowboys ranked second in points per game (28.8). They also led the league in red zone touchdown efficiency at 71.34%.
Prescott was injured in 2022 and only played in 12 games. From Week 10 on he threw 20 touchdown passes, which tied for the most in the league. For the season he finished with 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions with a passer rating of 91.1. Running back Tony Pollard finished 2022 with a career-high 1,007 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Wide receiver Cee Dee Lamb also finished with nine touchdowns. He also added 1,359 yards on 107 receptions.
Moore’s four years in Dallas coincided with their most prolific offensive output. They ranked second in total offense (391.0 yards per game) and scoring offense (27.7 points per game). The Cowboys were third in first downs per game (22.5) and fourth in third down conversion rate (44.1%). Their passing offense was fourth (264.4) and their rushing offense was seventh (126.6).

Moore and the Philadelphia Eagles
Now the question is can Moore replicate his offensive prowess in Philly? Moore will have the most talented overall roster to date. And what is more important (without apologies to Arthur Smith) he has the most overall fantasy-relevant players.
- Quarterback, Hurts, finished QB2 in fantasy 2023.
- Running Back, Saquon Barkley, Standard/PPR RB13 in Fantasy 2023.
- Wide Receiver A.J. Brown, Standard WR8/ PPR WR5
- Wide Receiver, DeVonta Smith, Standard WR22/PPR WR19
- Tight End, Dallas Goedert, Standard TE16/PPR TE14

Stats from Fantasy Pros
Prescott missed five games in 2022. Last season Herbert missed four games, Ekeler missed four games and Allen missed four games.
In 2021 when Prescott only missed one game he finished as QB7 averaging 20.7 fantasy points per game. That is also the year that Schultz balled out. Schultz finished as TE3 in 2021. He averaged 7.7 points in standard leagues and 9.5 fantasy points in PPR.
Moore’s offenses tend to be fantasy-friendly—the quarterbacks’ average yards per attempt increase. In yards per attempt and air yards per attempt, Prescott finished in the top 15 in 2021 and 2022. Herbert was 25th in yards per attempt (6.8) and 32nd in air yards per attempt (6.5) the year before Moore. Last season with Moore (and in limited field time) Herbert averaged 6.9 yards per attempt and 7.7 air yards per attempt.
With Ekeler’s limited games last season, it is hard to judge Moore’s impact. What we do know is the two seasons he was play caller in Dallas, Elliott finished top seven and the next year Pollard finished top eight.
Moore is also known for having a laser focus on his WR1. Lamb had a 24.7% and 30.1% target share. Last season Allen had a 32.0% target share. The situation in Philadelphia is that Moore has arguably two alpha receivers. Look for both Brown and Smith to eat in this offense.
When he was in Dallas, the tight end was used in the passing game to the tune of a 23.9% average target share. Goedert commanded a 19.1% target share last season. That was good enough for 83 targets.
The Eagles were 21st in pass attempts per game (33.2) last season. Moore’s Chargers were fifth (37.2). In 2022, the Eagles were known for passing heavily in the first half of games and then leveling off to the run game in the second half. The team ran the ball on 67% of their plays when leading in the second half (over the last nine games in 2021). The trend continued in 2022 with the Eagles attempting 319 passes in the first half of games and only 139 in the second half. The rushing attempts were 234 in the first half and 310 in the second half. Both stats were under then-offensive coordinator Shane Steichen.
The Eagles ‘ splits were more equitable last season with Brian Johnson in as offensive coordinator. They attempted 285 passes in the first half of the game and 267 in the second half. The team attempted 232 rushes in the first half and 271 attempts in the second.
Look for the Eagles to be more passing in both halves. This includes Saquon Barkley who has shown an ability to catch passes close to the line of scrimmage and downfield.
Moore may indeed be the antithesis of Arthur Smith. Thus, making him our potential fantasy godsend for the 2024 season!
