Ultimate Rookie Report Week 5 2024

If you spent this Sunday watching the Jets vs Broncos game, first of all, I’m sorry, but second of all, congratulations! You witnessed history! Bo Nix was the first quarterback since 1991 to have negative passing yards (-7 to be exact) in the first half of a football game. He WON the game going 12/25 for 60 yards. That hasn’t happened since Eli Manning did it in 2007. Isn’t futility fun?

On the other end of the spectrum, Jared Goff threw a perfect 18/18 Monday night and still didn’t achieve a perfect passer rating. That is because part of the formula for passer rating is touchdown passes per attempt and he fell below the arbitrary threshold. Two less passes and he would have had it. Darn.

Normally I wouldn’t talk about either of those things, but both are quirky and fun and need to be recognized. Here are the top five rookie player performances for a PPR league.

5. Ladd McConkey (17.7)

I’m going to be honest here and let you guys know I just can’t get into the Chargers. I want to. They have cool colors. They have good players. Their best wide receiver’s name is Ladd. Yet, even while watching the game it’s like I can’t pay attention or care about them. Somehow, I missed Ladd McConkey catch 5 of 7 targets for 67 yards and a touchdown. I watched the game and yet, did I? Keep up the good work Ladd! I guess!

4. Xavier Legette (19.6)

I honestly never thought I’d see the day when a Panther would do anything good. It’s been a rough couple of years. Xavier Legette was targeted a massive 10 times and caught 6 of those passes for 66 yards and a touchdown. Legette also rushed the ball twice for a total of 10 yards. It’s almost like having a functional quarterback can actually make things happen in the Queen City.

3. Brian Thomas Jr (21.9)

Another solid week for Brian Thomas Jr. Six catches, 86 yards, and a touchdown. The Jaguars are struggling this year, so Trevor Lawrence has to keep throwing the ball. Brian Thomas Jr. is getting a large percentage of these targets, so the future continues to look bright for this young man.

2. Malik Nabers (23.1)

Malik Nabers is the New York Giants offense. He is leading the entire league in targets so far this season with 52 passes thrown his way. This week alone,  he had 15 targets. Nabers caught 12 of those passes for 115 yards. Without a touchdown, this production still put Nabers as the 5th best receiver of the week and the top pass catcher on our list. Unfortunately, Nabers suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter of the game, but because he played on Thursday night, he has plenty of time to heal and hopefully play against Seattle next week.

1. Jayden Daniels (25)

This week, Jayden Daniels set the record for the highest pass completion percentage in the first four games with 82.1%. This isn’t a rookie record. This is an any quarterback in the first four games of a season ever record. The record was previously held by Tom Brady in 2007. Jayden Daniels continues his amazing rookie campaign with a 26/30 for 233 yards and a touchdown stat line. Add to that 8 rushing attempts for 47 yards and another touchdown.

There are two interesting trends this week and for the season overall. First of all, LSU produced some REALLY good players last season. The two top wide receivers (sorry Marvin) and the best quarterback both came from LSU. Second, being a wide receiver on a bad team is paying dividends this year for rookies.

Good luck out there fantasy managers! Thanks for reading!
