Ultimate Rookie Report Week 16

Every year, hundreds of fantasy analysts, celebrities and a collection of lucky fans compete for a charity tournament called Scott Fish Bowl. The rules change every year to keep it spicy and fun. A long draft takes place over the summer just in time to get everyone hyped for the upcoming season. I’ve been lucky enough to compete in the last 3 Fish Bowls and have enjoyed every one. This year, the rules made it so as long as you had one QB (but max 2), one wide receiver, one running back and one tight end, you could do whatever you wanted with your team. Tight ends have always gotten bonus points and I was very excited to slurp up every good tight end during the draft. If you play fantasy football at all, you know that this was the wrong year to do that, even with the bonus points. My team went 7-23 (you get one win for beating your head to head opponent and one for beating the average of the league). After a season of heartache and well into the obscurity of a loser in playoffs, my team put up an absolutely insane 256.8. Too late, friends. Maybe next year aka the eternal hope of a fantasy player.

If they’re not PPR points I don’t want them. These guys got a lot of them.

5. Xavier Worthy (19.6)

I keep wanting Worthy to be a big thing and he teases me with performances like this. Worthy caught six of his eleven targets for 46 yards. Andy Reid is also utilizing Worthy’s speed in the run game more, giving him three carries for 30 yards and a touchdown.

4. Jalen Coker (21)

I never thought I would see a Panther make this list. It turns out Bryce Young just needed to sit and watch to fully prepare to be an NFL QB.  Coker, an undrafted free agent out of Holy Cross, has popped at times this season. WIth Xavier Legette’s drop problem, Coker may actually be WR1 for the Panthers. Against the Cowboys, Coker caught four of his six targets for 110 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown and the majority of yards came off of a beautiful touchdown pass at the end of the second quarter. This 83 yard reception was the Panther’s longest passing play of the season. The day’s performance also put Coker in the franchise record for undrafted rookies, passing Corey “Philly” Brown. Things may be looking up for my favorite franchise!

3. Jayden Daniels (23.6)

Jayden Daniels did Jayden Daniels things. He led the game in rushing with 66 yards. He completed 80.6% of his passes (25/31) for 226 yards. Daniels was QB7 on the week for fantasy purposes.

2. Malik Nabers (24.2)

With Tommy DeVito and Tim Boyle at QB, Nabers caught 10 of his 14 targets for 82 yards and a touchdown. I pray that Nabers gets out of QB purgatory next year because he could truly be a monster.

1. Brian Thomas Jr. (32.5)

Brian Thomas Jr. is really trying to make Mac Jones relevant again. BTJ hauled in 10 of his 14 targets for 105 yards and two touchdowns. For a disappointing, underperforming Jaguars team, they really found a gem in Brian Thomas Jr. At 64 receptions, 956 yards and 8 touchdowns, Thomas has set the franchise rookie records with three weeks to go.

Week One of the playoffs is in the books. Were you lucky enough to have one of the players who had absolutely massive performances this week? If so, I wish you continued success. If not… sorry?

Love,
