Saint Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs
One of the most famous in all of of sports rivalries enter game 3 of the series as the struggling Cardinals will look to avoid another NL Central sweep after recently getting swept by the Reds.
The Cardinals are 2-8 in their last 10 games bringing their overall record to 32-32 and remain 3rd in the NL Central. The Cards will look to Martinez (3-6) to turn their recent woes around. Martinez has had some great outings but his last two outings been the opposite. He let up 15 runs in the past two starts through 4.2 innings of play. Not great for veteran but his past suggests he is due for a great outing. He has pitched 58 innings with an ERA of 6.21 and a WHIP of 1.28. He has 38 Ks and 20 BBs as well.
The Cubs are starting to surge as they improve their record to 37-27 overall and boast a 4 game winning streak. They will send out newcomer and veteran Davies (3-3) to the mound to complete the sweep. The veteran is capable of some amazing play but has shown to vulnerable in the past. Through 60.2 innings of play, the the gunslinger has thrown 37 Ks and walked 31 batters while maintaining an ERA and WHIP of 4.45 and 1.57, respectively.
The Cubs are the favorite at home with a ML of -140. The Cards are beaten down with injuries but have the spunk to pull games out of their ass. The Cardinals are due for a win being the solid team they are with the Cubs overperforming just a tad. The pitching matchup is relatively even making the Cardinals +1.5 the play with a wager on the Cardinals ML worth it.
Atlanta Braves at Miami Marlins
The Braves have shocked the MLB world by maintaining a losing record after nearly going to the World Series last year. The unfortunate news of Ozuna certainly doesn’t help their cause. The Braves have been struck with a four-game losing streak. Not surprising as the Braves are easily the streakiest team in team in the league for the past few seasons. They are 29-33 overall and 4-6 on their past 10 games.
The Braves will give the nod to Smyly (2-3). He has pitched 51 innings while striking out 43 and walking 18 batters with a WHIP of 1.39 and an ERA of 5.82.
The Miami Marlins have surprised the MLB world on the other hand by overperforming thus far even though they have a record of 29-35. The Miami Marlins are 5-5 in their last 10 games and own a winning streak of 3 games. They will counter with 25-year-old Lopez. The young slinger has played well through 75 innings striking out 76 and walking only 18 batters with a WHIP of 1.08 and an ERA of 2.76. Pretty soild numbers.
The Miami Marlins is the favorite to compete the sweep with a like of -130. The Braves do not usually allow themselves to go beyond losing 4 games in a row and certainly have the magic to pull off a win against a team they are better than. The Braves +1.5 is the play and the Braves ML is worth a look as well.
