Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals
The Tigers (27-39) are in the hunt for the first round draft pick during their rebuild. No one expected much from the Tigers this season and their record proves why. The Tigers are 4-6 in their last 10 games and took game 1 of the series against the Royals by a score of 10-3 on the road.
The Tigers will give the nod to Mize (3-4). The pitcher has seen 70.2 innings of action with 59 Ks and 22 BB with an ERA of 3.44 and a WHIP of 1.06. Surprisingly decent numbers for being on a bad team.
The Royals (30-35) were sitting pretty towards the beginning of the season but have started to fall with mid season approaching quickly. No one had the Royals making the playoffs or have a winning season and their true colors are being revealed. They are now on a four game losing streak and 1-9 in their past 10 games.
The Royals will send out Minor (5-3) to the mound. Minor has played fairly decent this season through 74 innings while obtaining 81 Ks and 24 BB. He also owns an ERA of 4.50 and a WHIP of 1.15.
The Royals are the heavy favorite with a money line of -145. The Royals are down on their luck recently and are due to come out swinging. Coupled with home field and a pitching advantage, the Royals ML is the play.
Los Angeles Angels at Oakland Athletics
The A’s (41-27) are doing themselves a favor to remain in Oakland by having an excellent season to help drum up fan attendence. The A’s are first in the AL West and tout a four game winning streak as they take game 1 of the series while going 9-1 in the past 10 games.
The A’s will send out Montas (6-6) to start game 2. Montas has pitched 70 innings thus far while managing to get 73 Ks and 18 BB with a WHIP and ERA of 1.36 and 4.37, respectively.
The Angels (33-33) have caught fire as of late going 7-3 in their last 10 games and just had their 6 game winning streak broken.
The Angels are sending out Heaney (4-3) to even the series. Heaney has played well through 57.2 innings of action getting 69 Ks and 19 BB while touting an ERA of 4.37 and a WHIP of 1.23.
The A’s are the favorite in game 2 with a line of -120. The Angels are the slight underdog and it’s easy to see why. I believe the A’s can easily win this game but the Angels will not go down quietly making the Angels +1.5 the play.
