Best MLB Picks: 5/08

Be sure to check out any relevant information before game time as this article is written the night before and picks may change with new information!

Los Angeles Dodgers at Los Angeles Angels

The Dodgers are on an awful streak and can’t seem to put things together after their historic run last season. They had an 8 game win streak that ended on April 17 and have only won 4 games since then and are arguably the worst team in the league right now. The Dodgers will have to dig deep and will send out their ace Kershaw (4-3) to get the train back on the tracks. Kershaw has played 39.2 innings letting up 34 hits, 14 runs, 3 HR, 7 BB, and 41 Ks.

It appears the Angels will take game 1. They are up 9-1 at the time this article is written. The Angels aren’t fairing that well as of late despite Mike Trout having a great season but baseball is a team sport. The Angels should improve to 14-17 overall. The Angels will send out Bundy (0-3) in game 2 of Battle Los Angeles. He has played 36 innings giving up 30 hits, 14 runs, 5 HR, 9 BB, and 40 Ks. Some solid numbers for not having a win yet.

The odds for this game are not out yet but I assume this game could be favored either way. I can see this game being close and taking the +1.5 to the team that gets it is favorable even though I think the Dodgers are due for a win.

Tampa Bay Rays at Oakland Athletics

The Tampa Bay Rays look to have their 5 game win streak snapped as they are downed by the A’s in game 1. The Rays are now 18-16 overall and 6-4 in the last 10 games. The Rays lose a close one and are playing some great baseball lately. The Rays will give a nod to their young ace Glasnow (4-1). Glasnow has played 43.2 innings of action letting up 23 hits, 10 runs, 4 HR, 15 BB, and a whopping 64 Ks. He is throwing some heat and boasts an ERA of 2.06 and a whip of 0.87. It is definitely worth a play to take Glasnow as a Cy Young candidate. Respect the flow.

The A’s are still playing some great ball after their massive winning streak earlier in the season and now sit 20-14 overall and 1st in the AL West. Montas (3-2) will get the nod to start. He has played 30.2 innings giving up 37 hits, 20 runs, 6 HR, 8 BB, and 29 Ks with an ERA of 5.87 and a whip of 1.47. Pretty average numbers bailed out by excellent bats.

The Rays are the obvious favorite with Glasnow on the mound with a line of -145. The Rays have the obvious pitching matchup and Glasnow is throwing bombs, I will continue to ride this horse making Rays ML the play.
