Best NBA Picks Against the Spread 12/28

Before we get going, I am not a fan of high spreads due to the unpredictable nature of the NBA on any given night. I wouldn’t recommend dropping the hammer on any of these lines today. Save your stack for more value lines. However, if you must bet on these high lines. I got you!

Detroit Pistons at Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks head to Atlanta for their first home game of the season after a starting a red hot 2-0 to start the season.

Trae Young has been absolutely on fire to start the season. He’s averaging 36.5 PPG, 8.0 APG, and 4.5 RPG. That’s insane. Look for him to continue his play against the Pistons.

The rest of the Hawks have been on a tear as well. The Hawks tout seven players that are averaging over 10.0 PPG. This just goes to show how deep this team is beyond Trae Young.

The Pistons recently suffered a double OT loss to the Cavaliers after blowing the lead.

The Pistons are in full rebuild mode and have little talent beyond Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose. Both out this game due to rest.

Griffin and Rose not playing suggests a runaway win for the Hawks.

The play here is Hawks -9.0. I generally do not like lines this high but I believe the Hawks scoring onslaught will continue against a slumping Pistons team that is sitting players due to rest with back to back games coming up.

Houston Rockets at Denver Nuggets

The Rockets are stricken with Covid-19. John wall, Eric Gordon and Ben McLemore are all out with Covid-19. However, James Harden is a go.

We saw a historic performance by a so-called “out of shape” James Harden dropping 44 points and 17 assists. His weight doesn’t seem like a problem, in fact, one could argue the extra weight helps him when he goes up to the basket.

With his co-star out, James will have to a day again in order to win. I’m not choosing this game for the win, I’m choosing it because I believe harden will do it again and at least cover the +7.5.

The Nuggets clearly have more talent but have struggled out of the gate. They are winless through the first two games of the season.

The Nuggets are last in pace and ranked 27th on shooting percentage from deep. This suggests the team is in a major funk and the numbers through two games do not suggest a turnaround with Harden on fire.

I believe the Nuggets should win this game with a Rockets cover of +7.5.

Memphis Grizzlies at Brooklyn Nets

The Nets are human after all. They just dropped a game to the Charlotte Hornets 106-104. They clearly took the night off in what they thought would be an easy win.

In recent years, top tier teams don’t usually lose back to back games. I think this will hold true this matchup.

Although the Grizzlies are a good young team, they will get the full wraith of the Nets this game after dropping an embarrassing game to a bottom-tier team.

The Grizzlies open up the season winless through two games and will look to give it their all against the Nets.

Ja Morant is on fire and appears to already be elevating his play after his Rookie of the Year season. So far, he’s averaging 36.0, 8.0 APG, and 2.5 RPG. That’s sizzling and Ja is a competitor so look for his play to continue.

At the time I am writing this article, there is no line available so I will do some guessing.

If the line is -6.5 Nets, I suggest you take it. Jaren Jackson Jr is not on the injury report but Justice Winslow is ruled out.

The Nets will be without guard Spencer Dinwiddie.
