Brian O’Neill Gets Paid! Impact on Fantasy Value?

The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to terms with right tackle Brian O’Neill on a five-year contract extension. The deal totals $92.5 Million.

According to ESPN, O’Neill is guaranteed $49 million of that. His rookie contract would have expired at the end of the upcoming season. The new contract runs through the end of the 2026 season.

O’Neill was a second-round pick of the Vikings in the 2018 draft and has since played in 46 games for Minnesota. He has never missed time due to injury.

With the extension, O’Neill now draws the second-highest average salary for a right tackle in the NFL at $18.5 million. Only Ryan Ramczyk of the New Orleans Saints earns more on average.

O’Neill is an essential part of the Vikings offense and is especially indispensable in the run game. According to ESPN, the 26-year-old ranked No. 1 in the league in run block win rate last year at 80.5 percent among all offensive linemen. Additionally, the Vikings have the third-most rushing yards (4416) since O’Neill took over as a starter in his rookie season.

With those numbers, O’Neill is more than Fantasy relevant, as his run blocking provides the numbers in Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison that make us Fantasy football players dream.
