Buy and Sell These Dynasty Fantasy Players Now (Week 8)

Week 7, where if you started Gardner Minshew, D’Onta Foreman, Josh Downs, Darrell Henderson, Jake Bobo and Pharaoh Brown you can outscore your opponent by almost six times if they started Justin Herbert, Bijan Robinson, Austin Ekeler, Cooper Kupp, Calvin Ridley and Cole Kmet. Here is a look at last week’s dynasty buys and sells. As for buys and sells for dynasty heading into Week 8, well you will have to keep reading.

Demario Douglas (WR-New England Patriots)

WHY: Creative Usage Amongst Uninspiring Offensive Weapons

My affinity for Malik Cunningham is well-documented and another versatile weapon on the Patriots has caught my eye, and his name is Demario Douglas. On a team that is not overloaded with pass-catching weapons Douglas has made himself valuable, producing as a runner, receiver and returner.

Douglas’ snaps have yet to exceed that of starters DeVante Parker and Kendrick Bourne. However, in Week 7, Douglas was the second-most targeted receiver (17%) on his highest snap share to date (62%). With no other receiver standing out as a viable option, outside of Bourne, Douglas has an opportunity to increase his usage as both a runner and receiver while still handling return duties.

I do not expect this offense to provide many fantasy-relevant players; however, this presents the opportunity to buy low on a young talent that could grow into a prominent role. If Douglas is already on a dynasty roster, he is likely able to be acquired as a throw-in on a larger deal.

Jared Goff (QB-Detroit Lions)

WHY: Uncharacteristic Performance Against Stingy Baltimore Defense

Goff remains a QB-1 in 2023 despite the Lions putrid offensive showing in Week 7 against the Ravens. Thus far, Goff is averaging 19.9 fantasy points per game, which matches his finish in 2018 season that ended in a Super Bowl visit.

At this point in his career, Goff feels like a slightly younger Kirk Cousins. A top-15 QB in fantasy but not truly appreciated for his level of production. The Lions have an out after this season, where Goff’s cap hit is only five million dollars. With Hendon Hooker waiting in the wings, could it be time to move on from Goff? I say nay!

After Detroit invested day one and two draft capital in players like Jamison Williams, Jahmyr Gibbs and Sam LaPorta and dished out a hefty contract to David Montgomery, it is clear Detroit is investing in offense. And I anticipate that Goff will be apart of that beyond the 2023 season. In the short-term, Goff has enticing matchups including: Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings.

Derek Carr (QB-New Orleans Saints)

WHY: Fantasy Production Conceals Diminishing Offense

Through seven weeks Derek Carr is a back-end QB-2 on the season (21st overall). While many saw Carr leaving Las Vegas for New Orleans as a great chance for a fresh start, it is safe to say it has not been tremendously fruitful thus far.

Carr is fortunate to play in arguably the worst division in the NFL. Despite being surrounded by a well-rounded group of offensive playmakers and a top-half defense, Carr seems to have brought his struggles from Las Vegas to his new team.

Visibly frustrated at multiple points during the Week 7 loss to the Jaguars, Carr appears to be either giving tough love or just sincerely disappointed in how the offense has performed. The Saints are without a viable exit strategy in terms of Carr’s contract until 2025. I by no means think Carr’s career is over as QB depth is paramount in superflex dynasty formats. However, at this point I would prefer to get off the bumpy dynasty ride and roll the dice on another QB.

D’Onta Foreman (RB-Chicago Bears)

WHY: Sell High Before Opportunity Shrinks

From being a healthy scratch for weeks to 120 scrimmage yards and three TDs in Week 7. How the tides have turned for Foreman.

In a second consecutive week leading the Bears injured RB-room, Foreman led the backfield in touches alongside undrafted rookie QB Tyson Bagent. Bagent is slated for another start in Week 8 against a Chargers defense that is vulnerable to RBs. However, rookie RB Roschon Johnson is expected to clear concussion protocol and be active for Week 8.

Foreman is behind Johnson on the Bears depth chart and Foreman was a healthy scratch for numerous weeks while Johnson was given snaps behind Khalil Herbert. While Herbert remains on the Injured Reserve, look for Johnson and Foreman to split the backfield work. I anticipate this backfield will be a hard-to-predict committee until Herbert returns. Instead of chasing another three-TD game, sell Foreman to a dynasty manager that believes in Foreman as the leader of the Bears’ RB room.

More Sells: Aaron Jones (RB-Green Bay Packers) & Mac Jones (QB-New England Patriots)
