CFL DFS Best Dollar Values DraftKings Week 7

Last week was arguably my most successful as part of this CFL DFS series. A lot of the players I featured found the end zone. And since TD scoring is so key to winning at Daily Fantasy Sports, I’d say it was a great week all around. So let’s try to recapture that magic once again. As always, I am presenting the CFL players that I consider to be the best values on DraftKings main slate. Without further adieu, here is my CFL DFS DraftKings Week 7 value article.

Quarterback

Nathan Rourke (BC) $12,000 vs HAM

Can the most expensive player on a slate be considered a value? Since I am suggesting Nathan Rourke at $12,000, my answer would be yes. So far this season, Rourke has seen a meteoric rise up the price chart. At the start of the year, he was firmly is the 4-digit range, closer to the the cheaper starting quarterbacks than he was to the top. But Rourke immediately payed divans in Week 1, contributing 5 touchdowns and his price has risen ever since. His 12 passing touchdowns currently leads the CFL, and he is also first in rushing yards at the QB position.

Whether it’s through the air or on the ground, Rourke is offers consistent production with a very high ceiling. The question really is, how much is too much. I think Rourke’s DraftKings price is reasonable, considering that he is above $13,000 on other CFL DFS formats. While his price tag may seem elevated, it is possible to make solid lineups with Rourke at QB. As the article continues, you will encounter more and more value options to help with the budget.

McLeod Bethel-Thompson (TOR) $9,000 @ SSK

After some fantasy struggles in the early going, McLeod Bethel-Thompson has produced back-to-back 20+ point performances. That includes a season-best 23.24 fantasy points last week against Saskatchewan. In Week 7, Toronto once again faces the Roughriders, only this time in Saskatchewan. Now, I can certainly understand some hesitancy to play Bethel-Thompson on the road. However, I will add that last week’s matchup was at a neutral site in the Touchdown Atlantic game. And from watching on TV, as well as the the pre-game reports, there were many more Roughriders fans at the game than there were Argonauts faithful. So Bethel-Thompson was able to produce solid number in what could be considered hostile territory. I think he will be just fine this week in Saskatchewan.

Running Back

William Powell (OTT) $8,200 vs MTL

William Powell has a had an underwhelming start to his tenure in Ottawa. While he did score a TD in Week 1, he has not found the end-zone since. He has also failed to hit 60 rushing yards, or 10 receiving yards in any single game. Still, Powell continues to see consistent opportunities with double-digit carries in every contest so far this season. So he has a relatively safe floor for those playing in 50/50 or cash games. And he lack of an explosive output in 2022 has kept his price at a value range.

Last week, due to injury, the RedBlacks had a new starting QB under center. He not only executed the offense as closely as possible to his predecessor, he he also produced 62 yards on the ground as a QB. Unfortunately for Powell, this did not translate to much more space to operate as he was playing a relatively good run defense. However, here in Week 7, Powell gets to take on a Alouettes squad allowing over 100 rushing yards per game. This could be the Powell breakout performance Ottawa fans have been waiting for.

Walter Fletcher (MTL) $6,200 @ OTT

Looking at the other side of that same matchup. With a coaching change came some personnel changes as well for Montreal. Walter Fletcher was elevated to the starting RB role entering Week 6, and had an edge in backfield opportunities (carries + targets) 9 to 4. While 7 rushing attempts is certainly not a massive workload, Fletcher did manage to pull of a 42 yard run, showcasing his explosiveness and big-play ability.

A portion of Fletcher’s success last week can certainly be attributed to the matchup. In Week 6, Montreal hosted Edmonton, a team allowing a league-worst 139.5 rush yards per game to opponents. The good news for Fletcher, and the Alouettes, is that their matchup this week is almost as favorable. Ottawa, their Week 7 opponent, has surrendered the 2nd most rushing yards per game at 116.4. I really like him as a solid option for those looking towards the cheaper end of the RB spectrum.

Wide Receiver

Dominique Rhymes (BC) $8,500 vs HAM

As the 2022 CFL season has begun to progress, Dominique Rhymes has emerged as the BC Lions top receiving option. Over the last two games, Rhymes has led the Lions in targets (12), catches (9), receiving yards (198) and receiving touchdowns (2). However, as his production continues to rise, his price does not match the same rhythm. Rhymes is still not the most expensive WR on the Lions, which makes him a value of sorts.

While Rhymes has had impressive production (especially in Week 5), I would not look to stack him with QB Nathan Rourke. That is mostly because of Rourke $12K price tag. Spending over $20K on a stack of two players is too much for me. Instead, I would prefer to play Rhymes without his QB. Further along in this WR section, I will present the Lions receivers I do want to stack with the QB for the Week 7.

Kian Schaffer-Baker (SSK) $8,300 vs TOR

Kian Schaffer-Baker could potentially be the top receiving option for Saskatchewan this week. With injuries in that receiving corps, and a potential suspension upcoming, Schaffer-Baker may be the de facto top target. And that would not be a stretch at all considering that in 3 of the last 4 games, Schaffer-Baker has led the Roughriders in targets and receptions. Over the course of the entire 2022 season, he sits atop Saskatchewan’s list in targets (39), catches (32), and tied for first in receiving touchdowns (3).

With back-to-back games against Toronto, look for Shcaffer-Baker to continue his hot streak. Last week against the Argonauts, he produced 96 receiving yards on 7 catches. I could easily see that production replicated, or even improved during the Week 7 matchup. Toronto has given up the most passing yards per game so far this season. So the production should be available for Schaffer-Baker to continue his impressive start to 2022.

Reggie White (MTL) $5,800 @ OTT

One of my favorite WR ranges this week are the players listed below $6K. That includes Reggie White Jr. from Montreal. While he has yet to find the end zone in 2022, White has already outproduced his reception and yards numbers from last season. Towards the end of 2021, White was becoming a key part of Montreal passing game. That momentum has certainly continued into this season.

White will be in a good spot in Week 7, as he faces the Ottawa defense. The RedBlacks are one of only two teams so far in 2022 to allow over 400 total yards per game to opposing offenses. So the opportunities should be there for White. I would say this might his best chance so far this season to score a TD.

Javon Cottoy $5,500 / Keon Hatcher $5,400 BC vs HAM

More Lions receivers. But in my opinion this $5K range is the preferred place to stack with QB Nathan Rourke. Unlike Dominique Rhymes, who is in the $8K range, both of these players are affordable enough. That way, you can still create a stack, but also have enough money to fill your lineup with quality players.

Now there is a reason why both Jevon Cottoy and Keon Hatcher are in the $5K range. While they have had some impressive fantasy performances this season, they have also demonstrated that the floor is quite low. Consider that both have scored touchdowns this year. But if you look at the games following their most recent end zone trips, Cottoy produced 2 catches for 18 yards, while in the last contest, Hatcher went 1 catch for 13 yards.

On DraftKings, if I had to pick a preference between the two, it would be Cottoy. Simply looking at his stature, Cottoy is an impressive athlete at 6’5″ and is a great candidate for contested catch or end zone targets. Looking at fantasy points per game, Hatcher is outproducing Cottoy, but Hatcher’s price is also different depeding on the format. From what I have seen, DraftKings actually has Hatcher on the expensive end, with his cost as low as $4,600 on other DFS sites. Cottoy meanwhile is consistently in the $5K. So while I would target Hatcher in other formats this week, Cottoy is the Lions WR I most want to stack with Rourke on DraftKings.

Deep Dive

Carlton Agudosi (WPG) $4,600 @ EDM

This may be an obvious deep dive that really stands out on the DraftKings list. If you organize by fantasy points per game, Carlton Agudosi is at the top of the list with 25 fantasy points per game. Now, that production all came last week in his CFL debut, and what a debut it was. Agudosi caught 6 passes for 70 receiving yards, and, most importantly, 2 touchdowns. While he is still learning the CFL game, Agudosi was able to utilize his 6’6″ frame to come down with two balls in the end zone.

Was this just a fluke performance? Or has Winnipeg unlocked the latest red zone weapon for their offense? To start this year, Agudosi was dealing with injuries which began in training camp. So has was slow to catch up in the early season-games. Now that he is up to speed, I would venture to guess that Agudosi will remain in the lineup for now. If this TD production become a trend for Agudosi, than expect a sharp increase in price during the coming weeks. So I say take the risk and take advantage of a sub $5K cost.

Defense

BC Lions $4,600 vs HAM

Offensively, Hamilton is committing the most turnovers in the CFL. Their 0.94 turnover over game rate is significantly higher than the 2nd worst team (Edmonton) at 0.78 turnovers per contest. Certainly much worse than the league average of 0.52 turnovers per match. That alone is enough of a reason to select the BC Lions as the defense this week. Considering that there are a couple of options in the $5K range, the Lions look like a great value at $4,600.

Montreal Alouettes $4,100 @ Ottawa RedBlacks $4,000

This defensive selection might depend on the RB selected. Either the Montreal or Ottawa offenses could struggle, which makes either defense a valuable option. If you did chose one of the running backs from this game, I would stack the defense from the same team, in order to maximize the outcomes. It’s not the best scenario to have an RB hitting in your lineup, but their production take away from your fantasy defense.
