Cut’em or Keep’em Week 4 (Fantasy Football)

Welcome back to Cut’em or Keep’em. In this column, I’ll break down the pros and cons of each player that may be on the chopping block for your respective team. Make sure to check back each week for more fantasy advice!

Cut’em or Keep’em Week 4

 Jordan Matthews, (BUF) 89.7% owned

Though Jordan Matthews has recorded over 60 yards twice this season, this yardage may not be sustainable for the rest of the season. In Buffalo, Tyrod Taylor leads a clear-cut run-first offense. Even in the passing game, Matthews ranks 5th on the team with a target share of just 14%. In the red zone, Charles Clay clearly has the advantage and trust of Taylor. Additionally, the former Eagles WR has a YPC of 19.0 which is far higher than his career rate of 12.0. While Matthews efficiency should go down over the next 13 weeks, his volume should go up in terms of targets and receptions. Hold on to Matthews for a few weeks. Verdict:  Keep

Giovani Bernard, (CIN) 92.4% owned

As I predicted prior to the season, Joe Mixon has emerged as the clear-cut starter early in the season for the Bengals. While he struggled in his first true start, Mixon’s workload will go anywhere but down. This change spells trouble for Bernard, who has even lost some of his role as a receiving back. So far this season, Bernard has the same amount of targets as his rookie counterpart, Mixon actually has a higher rate of receptions. With Mixon’s ability to serve a three-down back, Bernard has little value in fantasy. Verdict: Cut

Corey Davis, (TEN) 68.0% Owned

Though Corey Davis may miss a 3rd consecutive week, his potential in the Titans’ high-powered offense is too much to pass up on. In his only full game this season, Mariota targeted Davis 10 times, more than any other receiver. Davis may be the most talented rookie WR, and if he continues to be a focal point of Tennessee’s offense he could have a major impact the rest of the season. Verdict: Keep

Philip Rivers, (LAC) 56.4% Owned

Rivers enters week 4 as the 24th ranked quarterback in the NFL. While normally a bottom 10 ranked QB in fantasy is not worth owning, Rivers is. He recorded 17 points in each of the first two weeks, which would rank as the 10th QB in PPG. Additionally, in his first three weeks, Rivers faced two top defenses in the Chiefs and Broncos. His schedule gets easier throughout the year, and he should be able to bounce back to the 17 PPG stat line soon. Verdict: Keep
