Cut’em or Keep’em Week 4 (#FantasyFootball)

Welcome to week 4 of what is shaping up to be an unexpected and downright bewildering fantasy football season. Up is Down. Pigs are flying. John Ross is a top 5 WR while Stefon Diggs isn’t even in the top 20. Accordingly, let’s take a look at some players that you may be on the fence about, in the hopes we can calm your nerves through these rough waters.

Corey Davis, (Titans) 50% owned ESPN

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, you just might be a Davis owner. Davis has all the physical tools to be a standout receiver, and for years owners have drafted him on potential. It was supposed to all come together for him this year. The issue is, Marcus Mariota is still his quarterback. Davis has a total of six catches for 82 yards in three weeks. The additions of AJ Brown and Adam Humphries further dilute the already limited target pool. It is time to cut bait on Davis.

Jared Cook, (Saints) 82% owned ESPN

Jared Cook was going to be the next fantasy TE stud. Coming off a great 2018 campaign, he signed with the Saints in the offseason, and owners rejoiced. Cook catching passes from Drew Brees was going to propel him into the top 3 in fantasy production. The problem is it someone forgot to tell Sean Payton that Cook is a part of the offense.  Five receptions on 12 targets, 69 yards and zero touchdowns in three games are all Cook has to show for being TE1 for the Saints. It has become clear Cook is not part of the gameplan, and he shouldn’t be a part of yours.

Stefon Diggs, (Vikings) 96% owned ESPN

Minnesota has gotten off to a great start on the year, and they have primarily done it with the run game and defense. The byproduct of that is the passing game takes a hit.  In three games Diggs has just 12 targets. He’s caught six of them for 101 yards and a touchdown. That would be a normal game for him last year. The Vikings have a new offensive coordinator, and the gameplan seems to be running early and often. Fortunately, the Vikings have some high powered offenses coming up in the year. They will have to pass to keep up with the Chiefs, Packers, Cowboys, and Eagles. Diggs will be a big part of that, so patience is key. Hold him for now.

George Kittle, (49ers) 99% owned ESPN

Kittle had his coming out party last year for the 49ers. It was expected that he would just keep rolling into this year, but that hasn’t happened. The 49ers emphasis on acquiring pass-catchers has eaten into Kittles targets this year. Things started looking up in week 3. Kittle caught six of eight targets for 57 yards on Sunday. The catches, yards, and targets led all San Francisco receivers on the day, Eight different Niners caught passes in this one, and while Jimmy Garoppolo favors even distribution or targets, Kittle is still receiving the most targets per week. Keep the faith, and his production should tick up as the season goes on.

John Ross, (Bengals) 80% owned ESPN

Ross finally came back crashing down to Earth against the Bills. A surprise breakout to start the year, Ross was the WR1 in fantasy through two weeks. The Bills game can be explained as a slight hiccup against a great defense. He is still seeing 20% of the targets and has a 13-292-3 line over three weeks.  He should have a solid bounce back against Steelers team that ranks 29th against the pass and has allowed the 7th most fantasy points per game to opposing WRs this season. I would not only keep him but start him as well.
