DFS CFL Best Player Values Draft Kings Week 12

Here we are in Week 12 of the CFL season. Just another opportunity to play Daily Fantasy Sports on DraftKings. This week’s main slate returns to a normal 4-game set. During Week 11, I made some great calls in my CFL DFS article. I will reprise one of my QB decisions that worked out so well because the pricing fits once again.

Quarterback

McLeod Bethel-Thompson (TOR) $8,800 @ MTL

Matthew Shiltz (MTL) $8,100 vs MTL

Both starting quarterbacks in the 8K$ range are going head-to-head. If this game turns into a shootout, then both will be values at their respective prices. On the surface, McLeod Bethel-Thompson‘s matchup against Montreal does not appear to be the best. The Alouettes have allowed 207.44 passing yards per game. That is the second-fewest in the CFL. However, on a per-play basis, the Montreal defense is not efficient. They have surrendered 11.6 passing yards per throw, which is the third-highest amount in the league. If Bethel-Thompson strings together a game like before the bye week, then he will be well worth the price.

As for Matthew Shiltz, he had a great fantasy performance in his first start of the season during Week 11. With a pair of touchdowns, he outscored all of the quarterbacks that were priced higher than him. Since Toronto has allowed the third-most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks, Shiltz could definitely repeat the feat.

Running Back

Ka’Deem Carey (CGY) $8,900 vs SSK

This might be a process of elimination more than anything. Arguably, the two safest running backs still healthy this week are in the Saskatchewan @ Calgary matchup. For those two options specifically, give me the cheaper back playing at home. Especially since the Stampeders defense (and team overall) has really turned it around these last few weeks. For all of those reasons, Ka’Deem Carey is my favorite RB play of the week.

Brady Oliveira (WPG) $4,800 vs BC

This one will depend entirely on the health of another player. If Andrew Harris should miss Week 12, then Brady Oliveira is in line to be a workhorse back again. It was a role he excelled at during the early-season stretch without Harris. In the season opener, Olivera received 22 carries for 126 yards. That type of workload is rarely available for less than 5K$. If Harris is out, take advantage.

Wide Receiver

Jake Wieneke (MTL) $8,500 vs TOR

Jake Wieneke has seen a price spike over the last three weeks. Back in Week 9, he was a mere $6,100. After hitting the 7K$ range over the last two weeks, Wieneke is now at $8,500. This still does not seem expensive enough. There are wide receivers in 10K$ range. Yet, among wide receivers on the main slate, Wieneke has the most fantasy points per game.

Kenny Lawler (WPG) $7,300 vs BC

In second place on that WR fantasy points-per-game list is Kenny Lawler. Unlike the RB Olivera, Lawler should still be one of the best WR plays on the week regardless of if Harris is out or not. He has a decent floor with only two single-digit fantasy performances so far this season. Lawler also possesses arguably the highest ceiling in the CFL, as demonstrated by his 205-yard game just three weeks ago. At $7,300, this almost seems like a miss-price. Lawler will likely be the WR that I have the most exposure to in my lineups.

Lemar Durant (BC) $7,300 @ WPG

Apparently, $7,300 is a preferred position price point this week. Especially in that BC @ Winnipeg matchup. Lemar Durant has not put up the same production as Lawler. In fact, Durant does not even have a TD yet this season, he did miss some games with an injury, but still, he has been somewhat of a disappointment. While Lawler will be an almost automatic plug-and-play this week, Durant may be a nice leverage pivot. In only his second game back from injury, Durant demonstrated his explosive athleticism last week. His team was designing him touches so look for Durant to be even more heavily utilized in Week 12.

Kurleigh Gittens Jr. (TOR) $5,700 @ MTL

The Canadian WR has found a place in the Toronto starting lineup. Kurleigh Gittens has rewarded his team with some big plays throughout the season. None bigger than a career-high 7-reception 105-yard performance in a Week 10 victory for the Argonauts. That game was a battle for 1st place in the East division, so Gittens came through in an important matchup. Against another divisional foe in Week 12, look for Gittens to be just as involved. He also offers a cheap stack option alongside Bethel-Thompson at QB.

Deep Dive

Steven Dunbar Jr. (HAM) $3,900 vs OTT

I mentioned Steven Dunbar in my Week 10 article. That game, Dunbar produced a season-high 7 receptions. Now he was a little cheaper that week, but sub-4K$ is still a good value here in Week 12. The QB situation in Hamilton is not entirely clear. But with two capable options likely available for the Tiger-Cats, Dunbar should see targets from a more talented signal-caller. At least when compared to his upcoming opponent Ottawa.

Defense

Hamilton Tiger-Cats $5,700 vs OTT

Classic case of pick on the worst team. Ottawa has struggled offensively most of the season. The RedBlacks are last in most per-game offensive categories including points, first-downs, passing and total yards, as well as yards-per-play. One category that they are near the top in is turnovers. At exactly 2 turnovers-per-game, Ottawa is 2nd place in a stat that is rather unfortunate (Toronto is the only CFL team with more turnovers). Surprisingly, Hamilton is not the highest-priced defense this week. That arguably makes them the best value on the slate.

Calgary Stampeders $4,700 vs SSK

For a bit of a discount at defense, you can feasibly pay down 1K$ from Hamilton to get to Calgary. The Stampeders defense went through a rough patch early in the season. At one point, Calgary went 3 straight games without producing a sack. Now their defense is on a 5-game streak of multiple QB sacks. Inside that 5-game stretch includes two games against their Week 12 opponent Saskatchewan. In both those matchups, the Roughriders were held to under 20 points each time. Can Calgary do it again?
