Luis Severino

If you’re playing a slate where Luis Severino is an option, he is the top option of the day. He’ll face the Marlins in Yankee stadium and has an OTT (see pitcher chart) of 2.5, lowest on the entire day. He’s also the largest favorite on Monday. Severino has a high strikeout rate of 27.4% so he has upside outside of simple run prevention. He’s not on the main slate, but is available on some sites for all-day or short slates.

Jacob deGrom

If Severino is not available, deGrom is the top pitching option. It’s not a perfect matchup for deGrom, but he still projects to be the highest scoring pitcher on the main slate.

Blake Snell

Snell will face the Rangers in Tropicana Field. We may still have weather concerns on Monday, so it’s nice to know Snell will pitch without having to worry about weather. The Rangers take a park hit, and strike out 24.3% of the time, tenth highest rate in the league. They also have a wRC+ in the bottom third of the league. Snell is priced at $7,800 which puts him in play for both cash games and tournaments.

Luis Castillo

Castillo will face the Brewers in Miller Park. He’s struggled to start the year, but projects to have a high strikeout rate. The Brewers have improved their strikeout rate from last season, but still have plenty of batters with above average strikeout rates. With some minor injuries throughout the team, it’s hard to predict a Brewers lineup, but with the right combination, Castillo has immense upside in this matchup.

Hitters

Brewers Lefties

Although I like Castillo if the Brewers run out a strikeout-prone lineup, Brewers lefties are also in play. Castillo has strikeout upside, but has struggled against lefties giving up 1.45 HR/9 against left handed bats throughout his career. Eric Thames might not play due to injury, but he’s my favorite Brewers bat if he plays. Jonathan Villar will be the best value on the slate if he’s leading off at just $2,900 on DraftKings. Finally, Travis Shaw is priced at $3,400 and has plenty of power at Miller Park. If you’re into narratives, it’s also Shaw’s birthday. The Miller Park roof will be closed, so the cold weather won’t hurt offense too much.

Russell Martin

Martin will face Eric Skoglund in the Rogers Centre. He’s priced at $3,200, and will likely bat in the top six in the order. Skoglund is a weak lefty, and in a week of cold and rainy weather, there will be solid hitting weather inside the Rogers Centre. Skoglund projects to give up about 1.50 HR/9 this season, slightly higher against righties. I’m locking Martin into my cash game lineup as long as he’s batting in the top six.

Bryce Harper

Harper is a great tournament option. Even though deGrom is the top pitcher on the main slate, Harper has the third highest home run projection on the slate.
