Carlos Carrasco

Carrasco will face the Orioles in Camden Yards. I thought Corey Kluber was a slam dunk play yesterday, but only recorded four strikeouts. I’ll go back to the well with Carrasco on Monday as the Orioles maintain the second highest strikeout rate in the league. Carrasco will have the platoon advantage against more than half of the Orioles projected lineup, and should be able to record enough strikeouts to pay off his $11,700 salary. With a high run total for the Rockies in Coors Field, we’ll see if Carrasco makes my cash game lineup since I’ll want to pay for some of the Coors bats, but he’ll make quite a few of my tournament teams.

Masahiro Tanaka

Tanaka has struggled recently giving up 12 runs in his last two starts. He’s seen his price drop to $8,800 because of it. He’ll match up against the Twins in Yankee Stadium which is a tough park, but he’s a large favorite and has the second lowest OTT (see pitcher chart). The Twins have the seventh highest strikeout rate this year and have a wRC+ in the bottom third of the league. With a few high strikeout players in the lineup, the Twins are an exploitable matchup if Tanaka can prevent runs.

Mike Leake

Leake costs $6,300 on DraftKings, pricing him in the SP2 range. He’ll face the White Sox in Guaranteed Rate Field. The White Sox have the sixth highest strikeout rate in the league so far this year at 25.5%. Leake has an OTT of four, and has some strikeout upside given the matchup. It doesn’t feel safe clicking Leake’s name in cash games, but there is upside for his price.

Hitters

Rockies Bats

The Rockies are the top offense on Monday. Charlie Blackmon, Nolan Arenado, and Trevor Story are the top plays, but are also expensive, meaning you may have to choose just one for cash games. If I have to choose, I’ll take Blackmon with the platoon advantage against Bryan Mitchell. With Gerardo Parra serving his suspension, and Carlos Gonzalez on the DL, David Dahl should get the start and costs just $2,800. Dahl is a lock for cash games, and will be on most of my tournament rosters as a salary saving option. Chris Iannetta is the top catcher on the slate and will be hard to avoid if he’s batting in the top five of the order.

Robinson Cano/Mariners

The Mariners have the second highest team total on the slate against Miguel Gonzalez. Cano will hit with the platoon advantage and fills the second base position, which is somewhat ugly tonight. Gonzalez has a strikeout rate of 7.6%, so Cano should put the ball in play at least four times in this game. Nelson Cruz is also in play, but with my lineups using at least two Rockies bats in the outfield, Cruz is more of a tournament play. I don’t mind a full Mariners stack in tournaments either.
