Corey Kluber
Kluber will face the Twins in Progressive Field. He’s the biggest favorite on the slate, and has the lowest OTT (see pitcher chart). The Twins are 16th in the league in strikeout rate and wRC+ so while the matchup isn’t great, it’s not threatening either. The biggest knock on the matchup is Miguel Sano has been sent down by the Twins, taking a few strikeouts out of the lineup. Kluber is the top option on the slate, but he’s also expensive. I’ll wait to see lineups before deciding whether to pay for him in cash games.
James Paxton
Paxton will face the Red Sox in Safeco Field. It’s a park downgrade for the Red Sox, and Paxton is tied with Kluber for the lowest OTT. The Red Sox have a low strikeout rate (only 20.3%), and the third best wRC+ in the league, so it’s clearly a tough matchup. At the same time, Paxton costs $2,900 less than Kluber, and offers similar upside. I love Paxton for tournaments and at the discount from Kluber, I’m considering him in cash games as well.
Ross Stripling
Stripling has been fantastic this season averaging 30 DK points over his past five starts. He’ll face the Giants in a game where he’s a huge favorite and has the same OTT as Paxton and Kluber. The Giants have the seventh highest strikeout rate this season, and Stripling has recorded at least six punch outs in every game he’s thrown more than 70 pitches. At $9,800, Stripling is an early favorite for my SP2 on DraftKings.

Hitters
Nolan Arenado
It’s rare for me to consider Arenado away from Coors Field because his price is often inflated. In this matchup, he costs $4,900 on DraftKings and will hold the platoon advantage against Yohander Mendez. Even with cooler weather in Arlington, Arenado has a top five home run projection on the slate and projects for over a full point more than the next best third baseman. Arenado is firmly in consideration in cash games and is one of my favorite tournament plays as well.
Corey Dickerson/Pirates
Dickerson will face Matt Harvey in PNC Park. Harvey has allowed 2.04 HR/9 this season which is the same mark in 2017. He’s allowed a .406 wOBA to lefties this year and Dickerson costs just $3,900. Dickerson is one of the first players I’m looking at in cash games. The Pirates have one of the higher team run totals on Friday (4.5 runs), so they are one of my favorite stacks in tournaments, especially if they place some lefties at the top of their batting order.
Astros Bats
The Astros will face Jakob Junis in Kauffman Stadium. Junis hasn’t been terrible this season, sporting a 3.81 SIERA, yet the Astros have the highest team run total of the day at 5.5. George Springer, Carlos Correa, Jose Altuve and even Josh Reddick are in play for cash games, but since Junis has been solid this year, I’ll avoid stacking Astros in cash. In tournaments, the Astros are one of my favorite offenses to stack. They provide upside, and are affordable. To stack the Astros in tournaments, we just need to pay down at SP2 and punt one other position to fit a full stack.
