Tyler Skaggs
On the main slate, Skaggs is the clear top option. He’ll face the White Sox in Angel Stadium. The White Sox take a park hit and strike out at the second highest rate against lefties. Skaggs is the biggest favorite of the day and is tied for the lowest OTT (see pitcher chart). Even with Coors on the main slate, I don’t see how you can avoid Skaggs in cash games at $10,200 on DraftKings.
Danny Duffy
Duffy has been underpriced all season, but now his price is creeping closer to where it should be. Even though his price is up $1,600 from his last start, he’s a cash game value against the Tigers. Duffy has performed well since June recording 21 or more DK points in five of his past seven games. The Tigers have solid numbers against lefties, but it won’t scare me off of Duffy as an SP2 on the early slate.
Robbie Ray
In tournaments, I like Ray as an upside option. He’s underpriced for his talent, but it is a tough matchup against the Cubs. I’ll have less interest if the wind is blowing out, but if we get a favorable wind, Ray can exceed value. I won’t touch Ray in cash games due to his risk of a blow up start, but in tournaments, I’ll take some of that risk to chase the upside.

Hitters
Cardinals Bats
The Cardinals will face Sal Romano in Great American Ballpark. Both the Reds and Cardinals have disappointed in this series, but the matchup and ballpark are still fantastic for the Cardinals. The Cardinals have a team run total of five and have some underpriced players, perfect for cash games. I’ve played Marcel Ozuna way too much over the past month, but DraftKings refuses to raise his price. He’s $3,500 again, making him a one of the best values on the early slate. Paul DeJong is another value play at $4,300. In tournaments, I like a Cardinals stack, especially if some shy away from them after a difficult night against Homer Bailey yesterday.
Rangers Bats
The Rangers will face Edwin Jackson in Globe Life Park. They have the second-highest team run total on the day and almost their entire lineup is underpriced. Jackson has an ERA 2.93 but a SIERA of 4.48. He has a low strikeout rate, so the Rangers should be able to put the ball in play frequently. I currently have four Rangers in cash games, but am considering Joey Gallo as a fifth Ranger bat if he’s in the top six of the batting order.
Angels Bats
The Angels will face James Shields in Angel Stadium. The Angels have a team run total of five, one of the highest of the day. Shields has a SIERA near five, but has allowed just 1.02 HR/9 this year. He projects to allow closer to 1.70 HR/9, so when his HR/FB rate regresses, he will have a blow up start. Mike Trout is the top play on the slate, but he costs $5,900. He’s not a lock, but I expect him to be popular. If Kole Calhoun is leading off, I expect him to be one of the most popular plays on the slate as well. I’m trying to fit both Trout and Calhoun in my cash game lineup.
