DFS MLB DraftKings Lineup Advice 5/8
The schedule for tomorrow, May 8th, consists of 15 games spread over two main slates (an early slate and a main night slate). There are six games in the early slate and seven in the nighttime. The Reds/Indians and Brewers/Marlins are currently not assigned a slate.
Pitchers:
Fantasy managers should be aware that although stud pitchers are available in both slates, the day slate has more. I will provide a few options(both expensive and bargain basement prices) for both slates.
Top Tier-Early Slate
Scherzer(Nationals) $10,300 @ Yankees Scherzer is averaging 24.9 FPTS with a 2-2 record(2.54 ERA/0.85 WHIP)
Glasnow(Rays) $10000 @ A’s averaging 28.5 FPTs and has a 4-1 record with a 2.06 ERA/0.87 WHIP
Others I like(lowest to highest salary):
Martinez(Cardinals) $6900 vs Rockies at this price, I am willing to take a chance to offset higher priced pitching options. Martinez has a 3.72 ERA and 1.02 WHIP on the season.
Gausman(Giants) $7800 vs Padres in two starts vs Padres this season, Gausman is averaging 21.75 FPTS(just below his 22.9 FPTS on the season). He will be coming off the Covid list.
Musgrave(Padres) $9100 vs Giants. 2.38 ERA/0.74 WHIP(17.1 FPTS) on the season.
Late Night Top Tier:
Lynn(CWS) $9500 @ Royals averaging 25.5 FPTS with a 2-1 record(1.82 ERA/0.97 WHIP)

Others to Consider:
Richards(Red Sox) $8200 @ Orioles
Anderson(Braves) $8900 vs Phillies 2-1 on season with a 3.27 ERA/1.21 WHIP
The two other best options on this slate are Javier(Astros-$10700) and Kershaw(Dodgers-$10500). Both seem a little overpriced, but if I have leftover cap space, I would be willing to put them in my lineup.
Hitters:
I will go ahead and provide options for all positions(cheapest to highest priced salary) for both slates below.
Catcher:
Early-
Zunino(Mariners) $3800 @ A’s 7.8 FPTS/game with 6 HR/12 RBI’s on season
Nunez(Rockies) $4700 @ Cardinals. 7.7 FPTS on average(5 HR/15 RBI’s)
Contreras(Cubs) $5100 vs Pirates 7 HR/16 RBI’s on season.
Late:
Vazquez(Red Sox) $4200 @ Orioles .276 BA/2 HR/11 RBI’s
Realmuto(Phillies) $4500 @ Braves .279 BA/3 HR/13 RBI’s
First Base:
Early-
Hosmer(Padres) $4400 @ Giants averaging 7.5 FPTS with 3 HR/17 RBI’s
Moran(Pirates) $4500 @ Cubs .300 BA/4 HR/19 RBI’s
Late-
Walsh(Angels) $3900 @ Dodgers .330 BA/6 HR/ 22 RBI’s
This slate is loaded with higher priced first basemen. These include:Freeman($5300); Guerrero($5200); Alonso($5100); and Ohtani($5000), just to name a few.
Second Base:
Early-
Cronenworth(Padres) $3500 @ Giants averaging 6.7 FPTS with 2 HR/9 RBI’s
Hampson(Rockies) $4200 @ Cardinals 8.4 FPTS average(3 HR/11 RBI’s)
Lowrie(A’s) $4400 vs Rays .265 BA/3 HR/22 RBI’s
Late-
Madrigal(White Sox) $2700 @ Royals averaging 7.1 FPTS
Semien(Blue Jays) $4200 @ Astros .254 BA/7 HR/16 RBI’s
Just like first base, there are also several good high-end priced second baseman as well. That being said, I would prefer to go more conservative here and save money for elsewhere.
Short Stop:
Early-
Wendle(Rays) $ 4000 @ A’s .293 BA/3 HR/16 RBI’s
If the fantasy owner has saved any space, Turner(Nationals-$5400), Story(Rockies-$5600), Baez(Cubs-$5700) and Tatis Jr(Padres-$5900) are available. If not, plug in Wendle.
Late-
Gregorius(Phillies) $3400 @ Braves .247 BA/4 HR/22 RBI’s
Kiner-Falefa(Rangers) $4700 vs Mariners .273 BA/5 HR’s/14 RBI’s
Bogaerts(Red Sox) $5200 @Orioles .356 BA/6 HR/18 RBI’s
Third Base:
Early-
Candelario(Tigers) $3700 vs Twins .305 BA/3 HR/12 RBI’s
Longoria(Giants) $3900 vs Padres .282 BA/4 HR/13 RBI’s
If money is available, Arenado(Cardinals-$4900) and Machado(Padres-$5000) make nice options.
Late-
Bregman(Astros) $4600 vs Blue Jays .292 BA/5 HR/16 RBI’s
Devers(Red Sox) $5100 @ Orioles .287 BA/7 HR/24 RBI’s
Outfield:
Early-
Margot(Rays) $3000 @ A’s .255 BA/3 HR/17 RBI’s
Carlson(Cardinals) $3600 @ Rockies .274 BA/3 HR/15 RBI’s
Soto(Nationals) $4900 @ Yankees due to recent stint on the injury list, Soto’s price is still in the middle of a correction.
Late-
Garcia(Rangers) $3600 vs Mariners .258 BA/7 HR/19 RBI’s
Verdugo(Red Sox) $4100 @ Orioles .315 BA/4 HR/16 RBI’s
Alvarez(Astros) $4500 vs Blue Jays .337 BA/5 HR/17 RBI’s
In closing, I would handle these two slates slightly differently. Although I mentioned at the beginning of the article that both slates had stud pitchers, the late night simply has fewer than the day. In addition, the late is loaded with good hitters.
Since there are so many good hitters in the late slate, I would go cost effective at pitcher(where possible) and load up on hitters. The day slate, on the other hand, should revolve around the pitching.
