DFS NBA DraftKings Lineup Advice 1/13/21

Top PlayTrae Young – Atlanta Hawks PG – $8,900
This game has Trae Young explosion written all over it. Trae has gotten yet another haircut on his price tag and now he walks into one of the highest-scoring spots on the slate. Phoenix has improved defensively from years past, but lately, they’ve shown a tendency to soften in pace up spots and against the fast-break. I expect Trae’s scoring responsibility to increase with injuries mounting for Atlanta and his legitimate double-double upside on a nightly basis make him one of my favorite plays on the slate.

Mid-tierLaMelo Ball – Charolette Hornets PG – $7,200
Yep! I’m all-in on the LaMelo Ball hype. This kid can contribute in all phases of the game and Charolette has decided to let him cook over the past week. LaMelo is coming off a 44 point performance where he only shot 3-13 from the field and has been within arm’s reach of triple-double in each of his last 3 games. Against a decimated Dallas team, Ball might have both the safest floor and highest upside on the Wednesday slate; which finds him as a centerpiece of most of my lineups today.

Value | Nickeil Alexander-Walker – New Orleans Pelicans PG/SG – $3,100
Lonzo is already out and Bledsoe is carrying a Questionable tag into this game. With just one of them out, NAW stands to see a nice usage bump and if they both sit he could be the biggest value on the slate. He’s averaging nearly 22 pts/gm when he sees 18 minutes or more this season and stays plenty busy on the defensive side of the boxscore. The other value plays at Guard will carry a ton of ownership, making NAW a really interesting way to get unique with your lineup tonight.

Fade | Luka Doncic – Dallas Mavericks PG – $10,800
I love me some Luka. Full stop. But at $10.8k and with Porzingis returning to the lineup, tonight shapes up to be a spot where I’m fading him a fair amount. On an 8-game slate with this many unknowns circling around him, you’ll rarely find me owning the most expensive player on the board.

Top PlayJulius Randle – New York Knicks PF/C – $9,100
Playing bigs against the Nets has been central to my hoops strategy all season and now it’s Randle’s turn to step up to this buffet. Brooklyn is allowing big men to score and rebound at-will this year and Julius has emerged as the do-it-all centerpiece in Thib’s system. Randle has delivered a double-double in 8-straight games and leads all Power Forwards with 6.9 assists per game; giving him the triple-double upside to be one of my favorite plays on the board today.

Mid-tierJerami Grant – Detroit Pistons SF/PF – $7,900
I struggle with this one a bit because the price tag is right about where it should be. While Grant might not be the best value play on the board tonight, he offers the consistent floor that I look for in my cash-game builds. Over his last 4 games, Grant is averaging 46.5 fantasy points and offers the diverse skill-set that opens a number of avenues to get to that return. On the season, Jerami Grant is one of the few players to average at least 1 3ptm, 1 block, and 1 steal per game (to go along with over 25 pts/game) and that type of usage is exactly what I target when building a cash lineup.

Value | Kevin Knox II – New York Knicks SF/PF – $3,900
This one is really about opportunity. Bullock, Burks, Toppin, and Frank Ntilikina are all listed as out or doubtful for tonight’s game and that opens the door for Knox to see heavy usage. In their last game, with that same crew missing, Kevin Knox saw nearly 30 minutes and delivered a 19/5/2/1 line. He is still basically free and in a spot where he’s going to see plenty of time on the court, I love Knox as a value-play tonight.

Fade | Kristaps Porzingis – Dallas Mavericks PF/C – $8,400
The only thing that gives me pause here is just how decimated that Dallas roster has been. Porzingis is returning to a spot where the team flat out needs minutes and contribution but, given his injury history, I don’t see the Mavs being reckless in his return to the court. He might go off tonight, but thats an outcome I’m willing to fade given his price tag.

Top PlayAnthony Davis – Los Angelas Lakers PF/C – $9,000
I don’t know exactly how this happened, but $9k for AD is simply too cheap. Davis can legitimately go for 50+ on any night and his upside at this price point could break the slate. AD is all but a lock for a double-double when he’s on the floor, averaging 22.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, and heads into the 3rd best matchup for his position tonight against OKC. This is a back-to-back spot so keep an eye out for a scratch but if AD is playing, he’s locked into my lineups.

Mid-tierRichaun Holmes – Sacramento Kings C – $6,400
I love this play tonight! This game sets up to be one of the chalkiest on the slate, but Holmes is an interesting angle to take. Holmes has been averaging 13.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.5 blocks and has all but relegated Whiteside to mop-up duty for this Kings team. Tonight, in addition to being a nice pace-bump, Holmes squares off against a Portland team that is the 6th most favorable to opposing Centers; allowing 23.5 points, 14.7 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game. I’ll have plenty of Holmes in my builds tonight!

Value | Willie Cualley-Stein – Dallas Mavericks C – $4,100
We have been taking advantage of the value Dallas’ COVID outbreak has opened up for a few days, and tonight will be no different. WCS has always been one of those pts/min darlings that just needed an opportunity to see the court and now its here. In the games since the outbreak started in Dallas, WCS is seeing better than 24 minutes and 22.6 fpts per game and has been stuffing the defensive side of the stat sheet. Tonight he faces a Charolette team that is allowing the most rebounds per game to opposing Centers and giving him legitimate double-double upside for a minuscule $4.1k price tag.

Fade | Karl-Anthony Town – Minnesota Timberwolves C – $9,800
Noticing a theme here? I’m simply not going to pay top-dollar for guys on their first game back and likely walking into a minutes restriction. Could KAT come in and deliver insane value? Sure. But him being eased back into the game is the far more likely outcome and that has me fading him for tonight.
