DFS NBA DraftKings Lineup Advice 1/18/19

One of the keys to success in DFS, especially Fantasy NBA is having a logical process. While I have been in somewhat of a slump recently, I maintain my process with fidelity. Focus on usage rate, find value, and add stars accordingly. There’s more too it than that, but that’s the general idea that I live by. You might not see results immediately, but it ultimately pays off, anyway on to the picks.

Top Plays

Donovan Mitchell (8900 DK) vs. Cleveland

If you are one of my now 6 readers, you know I love to target the Cavaliers. While the Jazz’s pace of play is rather slow, Donovan Mitchell has had an insane usage rate recently, and is the team’s starting point guard with Ricky Rubio, Dante Exum, and Raul Neto out with injury. Now that he is once again under 9000 DK, Mitchell is a great pick, and in this case in a great spot.

Kevin Durant (10,100 DK) / Stephen Curry (10,000 DK) @ L.A. Clippers

Again, if you are one of my few loyal readers you might have noticed I always seem to be on the wrong side of the Durant/Curry debate. I pick Durant, Curry goes off, and vice versa. How do we solve this problem? Pick them both! The Clippers are solid this season, and play at fast pace. Combine this with the fact that the Warriors are worse on the road, and we figure to see a high scoring game that should be close (translation, KD and Steph should play a lot of minutes).

Value Plays

Hassan Whiteside (6500 DK) @ Detroit

I’ll admit, this pick makes me nervous. Whiteside hasn’t played over 30 minutes in a game since 1/4 and is just a week past putting up a 11.5 fantasy point stinker against the Hawks. That being said, the same Hassan Whiteside put up 50 fantasy points in only 30 minutes against the Wizards a few weeks back. At 6500, Whiteside is worth the risk.

DJ Augustin (4800 DK) vs. Brooklyn

This is a tough pick to like, as nobody sets out to play DFS with the idea of rostering DJ Augustin. That being said, DJ Augustin seems to reach value most nights playing for a struggling Magic team. D’Angelo Russell is not known for his defense, and rostering Augustin frees up space for more stars in your lineup.

Kyrie Irving (9000 DK) vs. Memphis

Things are not going well for the Celtics and Kyrie actually called LeBron for advice, and to apologize for his previous actions. Combine this dysfunction with a tough matchup against Memphis and a high price tag, and a Kyrie is a definite pass.

Julius Randle (7500 DK)  @ Portland

Julius Randle has done an outstanding job for the Pelicans since coming over from the Lakers this offseason. At 7500 with Nikola Mirotic back in action and gaining minutes by the day, Randle’s minutes are down and hence so are his opportunities. While Randle managed to put up 37.25 fantasy points in only 22 minutes against the Warriors the other night, the matchup against Portland is far tougher and a repeat performance is highly unlikely.
