DFS NFL FanDuel Week 3: Mini Slate Lineup Advice

Welcome to the Week 3 NFL FanDuel Mini article. In this article we will be taking a look at a relatively new slate that was introduced about half-way through the MLB season this year. Unlike a traditional FanDuel NFL lineup, you only have to roster five players (QB, RB, RB, WR, WR) in the FanDuel Mini format. One other slight difference is that all tight ends also appear as wide receivers, so you do have the option of using a tight end if you choose to do so. The total salary cap ($60,000) is the exact same as a traditional NFL FanDuel lineup, but they do scale the salaries up a little bit to accommodate for the smaller roster size. Let’s take a look at some of my favorite options for the FanDuel Mini slate in Week 3.

Quarterback

Aaron Rodgers (GBP): $14,000 vs. CIN
I believe this is another week we can afford to spend up at quarterback in our lineups since we probably do not have to spend up at wide receiver. If we’re going to spend up, we might as well go all the way up to Aaron Rodgers. The Packers have always been a pass heavy team since Aaron Rodgers has been their starting quarterback and that does not appear to be changing anytime soon, considering he made over 40 passing attempts in each of his first two games this season. That trend should continue in Week 3 against the Bengals, who have not looked to great on defense through the first two weeks.

Cam Newton (CAR): $12,500 vs. NOS
If you want to drop down a little bit at quarterback, consider using Cam Newton. Newton has not looked great yet through two games this season. However, he has an outstanding matchup against the Saints, who have allowed six passing touchdowns through the first two weeks of the 2017 season.

Le’Veon Bell (PIT): $14,000 @ CHI
Le’Veon Bell has still yet to find the endzone in 2017, but which means he is way overdue for a huge game. Last week he had 27 rushing attempts and caught all four of his targets for a total of 31 touches. He should be in line for a similar number of touches this week in a great matchup against the Bears. The Steelers are huge favorites despite being on the road, which means Bell should get a ton of volume in the second half of this game.

Kareem Hunt (KCC): $13,000 @ LAC
Kareem Hunt has looked unstoppable through his first two games of his NFL career with five touchdowns on a total of 38 touches. Hunt should continue to feast since we know that Andy Reid has always been a coach who likes to have a bell cow running who receives a majority of the workload. The Chargers have been decent against the run through the first two games of the season, but that will not scare me off of using Hunt this week.

Jay Ajayi (MIA): $13,500 @ NYJ
Despite not finding the endzone, Jay Ajayi had a very solid Week 1 performance against the Chargers, with a total of 126 yards on 28 carries and two receptions. The Dolphins are favored by six points against the Jets, which means the Dolphins should be feeding Ajayi the ball quite a bit in the second half.

Wide Receiver

A.J. Green (CIN): $11,000 @ GBP
The Bengals have faced two really difficult defenses so far in 2017, which has resulted in zero touchdowns scored. I do not think the Bengals win this game in Green Bay, but I am fairly confident that their offense will not get shut down to the extent it has each of the past two weeks considering the Pcakers’ defense is not too great. A.J. Green has continued to be Andy Dalton’s favorite target with a total of 18 targets and 10 receptions through their first two games.

Davante Adams (GBP): $9,000 vs. CIN
Both Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb were banged up during the Packers’ previous game against the Falcons. It sounds like Nelson is going to be able to suit up Sunday, but Cobb is listed as doubtful. With Cobb out, Adams should see a few additional targets in a solid matchup against the Bengals.

Kendall Wright (CHI): $7,000 vs. PIT
If you are looking for a value wide receiver this  week, consider using Kendall Wright. The Bears are extremely depleted in wide receivers since Cam Meredith and Kevin White are out for the remainder of the season. The Bears will likely be trailing to the Steelers in the second this Sunday, which means that there is a very real possibility that Wright can gain some cheap, garbage time receptions and yardage late in this game.
