Top Pitching Values
David Price (DK – $12800, FD – $11400) – After a slightly bumpy start to the season, David Price has really locked in. On they year he sports a 3.24 SIERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 23.7% strikeout rate. Over the last 30 days Price has a 2.63 SIERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 27.3% strikeout rate. Although the Rays have an above average 0.321 wOBA (6th) against LHP, they also have a 22.3% strikeout rate and a 0.280 wOBA (26th), 81 wRC+ (24th), and 20.9% strikeout rate (20th) over the last 14 days. Without anyone in the lineup to scare you and the big strikeout potential, Price is easily the top pitcher on the day and worth his heft price tag. And if you believe in narratives, Price will be pitichng against his former team that traded him to his current team that may be about to trade him. Price should be motivated for a big game.
James Shields (DK – $9100, FD – $9300) – Despite not seemingly living up to expectations this year, Big Game James has a 3.29 SIERA and 26.(% strikeout rate on the year (both better than last year). His opponent, the New York Mets, are a below average team against RHP with a 0.294 wOBA (26th), 89 wRC+ (24th), and 20.1% strikeout rate (17th). Despite being a slight underdog against Noah Syndergaard, Shields’ price and K upside make him the better play in this game.
Top Hitter Values
Carlos Gonzalez OF (DK – $4400, FD – $3000) – Rockies bats away from Coors are generally not good plays in DFS unless the price and matchup is right and for CarGo it is. Gonzalez is completely locked in at the plate and hit two more HRs yesterday. Today he faces a weak pitcher in Dallas Beeler who allows a 0.483 wOBA and 0.571 SLG to LHH. At only $4400, CarGo is a great play.
Gerardo Parra OF (DK – $3400, FD – $3400) – If you’re a regular reader here you know Parra is a favorite of mine as his price does not match his production on the year. With the platoon advantage again today against an average pitcher in Matt Cain, Parra price dropped $700 to $3400. Although the Brewers and Giants are playing in pitcher friendly AT&T Park, this price is just too low to ignore.
Top Value Plays
Tyler Saladino SS/3B (DK – $2400, FD – $3000) – Saladino continues to hit in the two-hole for the White Sox team that has hit its stride of late. Even though he continues to produce, with a triple and a run yesterday, his price tag never budges. He also has the platoon advantage against Wade Miley who allows a 0.338 wOBA to RHH, and offers great value at a weak SS position and the flexibility to slot in at 3B if necessary.
