DraftKings Value Plays- NFL Week 2 (9/15/19)

Week 1 of the values was apparently the kiss of death with two of the values named now being on the injured list and another one of the values taking over lead back duties after Tevin Coleman suffered a high ankle sprain. I apologize in advance to the friends and family of those listed below for Week 2.

Please note, a ton can (and will) change between article posting and kickoff, follow me on Twitter for all my thoughts on additional value coming and going before lineups lock.

QUARTERBACK

Josh Allen ($5,300), Buffalo Bills at New York Giants:

The darling of the DFS community. Going on the road to face one the most talent depleted teams in the league. A team that gave up 405 passing yards to Dak Prescott last week. Conspiracy Theory: The Giants did this on purpose to give leverage to Dak’s average annual salary demands. I also like that Josh Allen gets to face the G-Men on the road as it will hopefully keep the game close enough that the Bills continue to execute their game plan instead of trying to take the air out of the ball. At $5,300 on DraftKings, Josh Allen is on my list of GPP QB plays.

RUNNING BACK

Josh Jacobs ($4,700), Oakland Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs:

The Raiders played Monday night which means their prices were not adjusted based on week 1 performance. Their entire offense showed promise against the Bronco’s and, just as important, they showed a condensed touch/target share. Coach Gruden has already come out and said he wants Josh Jacobs to get a similar workload this week. The Raiders would be value regardless of spot but add in the fact they are projected to be in a shootout with the K.C. Chiefs and you have a fantasy gold recipe. I won’t be overthinking the chalk on this one.

Chris Thompson ($3,900), Washington Redskins vs. Dallas Cowboys:

Derrius Guice is on the shelf for several weeks. Many will pivot to Adrian Peterson but I think the game flow favors the pass catching back Chris Thompson. Chris only received 3 carries last week and I don’t expect that number to rise too drastically but he was the recipient of 10 targets which is gold in DraftKings scoring. The Cowboys are expected to win this game comfortably so I am banking of Thompson being out there in catchup mode and catching another 4-6 balls. He breaks one of those for a score, he SMASHES value.

WIDE RECEIVER

Tyrell Williams ($4,400), Oakland Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs:

Going back to the Raider well on this one. Tyrell is the de-facto #1 WR and received a decent-sized, 7 targets against the Broncos. This week Tyrell faces off a much worse pass defense in a spot that is likely to be high scoring. I anticipate the Raiders being behind for most of this game so the Raiders will be forced to air it out in an attempt to keep the game competitive. Once again, sometimes you don’t need to get cute in this spots. Tyrell is a must in cash games and I won’t be pivoting in many GPP’s.

Christian Kirk ($4,500), Arizona Cardinals at Baltimore Ravens:

At first glance, you wouldn’t think this is an ideal spot. Baltimore has the reputation of having a lock down defense. However, the secondary has been ravaged by injuries and I expect the Cardinals to be forced (like they needed to be forced) into throwing the ball as they try to keep up. Kirk saw approximately 20% of the targets last week and I don’t expect that number to trend down anytime soon. He makes a great play and an interesting pivot off Tyrell the Gazelle.

TIGHT END

T.J. Hockenson ($3,000), Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Chargers:

I certainly could have loaded up on ANOTHER Raider for my tight end value but I needed to switch it up. Rookie TE’s typically struggle but Hockenson had himself a day against a horrid Cardinals defense. A word of caution, the Chargers held Ebron/Doyle to 2 combined catches last week but I am betting on talent here. If Hockenson is going to live up to the hype, he won’t be this cheap for long.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

Houston Texans ($2,800) vs. Jacksonille Jaguars:

This one is likely to be the chalkiest of chalk, but this is a values article, not pivot plays. DraftKings barely adjusted the price of the Texans defense which is about to face something called a Gardner Minshew II, a 6th round rookie out of Washington State. This rookies journey is pretty interesting, apparently there is no Gardner Minshew the first and his grandfather wanted to name him Beowolf, check out his story if you have five minutes. I hope he turns into the next Tom Brady but I also know there is less than a 1% chance of that happening. So for the time being, I will bet against the kid in his first start.
