Dynasty Football: Best Landing Spots for Rookie RBs

Josh Jacobs – Buffalo Bills

The Bills have LeSean McCoy and Frank Gore on the roster, what two better backs in the NFL would Jacobs have to learn from? Jacobs could refine his game greatly behind those two backs. If he sits in 2019 he has even less carries on his resume, or the Bills could deploy a New England type approach with their backs to keep them all fresh. With Josh Allen’s rushing ability, it should help Jacobs down the road by keeping the defenses on their toes, and Jacobs has played with a QB that rushes in Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts. Plus Josh and Josh take Buffalo would be a cool tv show.

Rodney Anderson – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Anderson has a bad injury history, but when he’s healthy he’s one of the best backs in this draft. Tampa Bay has Ronald Jones who was drafted in the second round last year but under a  different coach and Peyton Barber who was resigned this offseason. New head coach Bruce Arians likes to use one back primarily and he’s shown he’s not afraid to give one back 300 or more carries. Anderson’s best season saw him total 188/1161/13 with 17 receptions for 281 yards and 5 TDs, he averaged 6.2 YPC that year. If Anderson gets drafted to Tampa Bay he will shoot up your rookie draft boards. He’s currently my RB3 in this class. If his ACL Injury (that he tore two games into 2018) is healthy he could surpass all backs on Tampa’s roster and become the guy.

Bryce Love – Philadelphia Eagles

This would be a future pick for the Eagles, having just traded for Jordan Howard (who’s a free agent next year) and having Corey Clement and Wendall Smallwood on the roster. As you know Love is recovering from a torn ACL in the last game of the college season. I could see him being a day three pick and sitting out his rookie season, only to come into training camp in 2020 looking to take over. Love is a three-down back the Eagles desperately need. The Eagles haven’t had a back rush the ball 200 times since LeSean McCoy left. Yes, this wouldn’t help your fantasy team in 2019, but your most likely going to get him late third round to early fourth round. Which could be a huge value pick for your fantasy team also. In 2017, when Love was healthy and should have left college, he was averaging 8.1 YPC. He had 2,118 yards on 263 carries for 19 TDs. His receiving numbers aren’t the best 20/99/0, but if you go back to his freshman year he had a receiving line of 15/250/1. So he has the ability to catch the ball also.

Miles Sanders – Chicago Bears

I could see Sanders getting taken in the second round but if Sanders is there in the 3rd round when the Bears finally pick this is what they need. To be honest, I had Kansas City here, then I heard Matt Kelley (@Fantasy_Manison) talk about it on his podcast and I couldn’t agree more.

Sanders was a 5-star recruit coming out of high school but then had to sit behind Saquon Barkley his freshman and sophomore seasons. Then he gains the starting job in 2018 only to run behind a horrible OL but still averaged 5.8 YPC. Sanders would command the workhorse role in my opinion. Which in turn would kill all the hype on Tarik Cohen and Mike Davis for fantasy purposes. It would also help Allen Robinson and Mitchell Trubisky. Imagine what Nagy did with Kareem Hunt in Kansas City now give him a better athlete in Sanders, a healthy O-Line and year two with his system in place. The Chicago Bears could be a fierce offense if this happens.

David Montgomery – Oakland Raiders

Oakland Raiders have acquired Antonio Brown this offseason which should bolster their wide receiver corps. They signed Isaiah Crowell and have Jalen Richard, Chris Warren, and DeAndre Washington on the roster. If they take Montgomery, he could become their workhorse back. Montgomery is Mike Mayock’s typical running back prospect. Productive rushing and receiving and the perfect size he wants. They would have to take him 35 as that’s their last pick till 106. Which I don’t see Montgomery falling that far. Mayock may trade back on one of his three first rounders and gain a few mid-round picks, which they could use to grab Montgomery.

This would kill all my Chris Warren shares (maybe Reggie McKenzie gets him to Miami), but I feel this would be the best place for Montgomery to gain instant fantasy production.
