Fantasy Baseball: News and Notes Week 3

Week 3 of the baseball season is in the books and people are unrightfully already forming their opinions on certain players. I’ll tell you who is an early season fluke and who is someone you need to buy low on. If you happen to be an owner with a struggling/injured star hold one and expect that better things are ahead. However, if you own a fluke player like Avisail Garcia then trade right now.

Carlos Correa is off to a very sluggish start batting .197 for the first few weeks of the season. Correa is an interesting player because many people thought he was a bust last year for some reason and he has almost gotten lost in the young shortstop debate between Francisco Lindor and Corey Seager. If you can buy, do it. Correa will turn things around and show us how talented he really is.

In the theme of struggling young stars, we now present Maikel Franco. Franco has a .182 batting average and 3 homers on the young season. Franco has a .167 babip, is striking out a lot less, and walking more which is a sign that the reason he isn’t producing is bad luck. Buy at all cost.

Jose Bautista is batting .132/.247/.200. That is just awful not to mention he has struck out 25 times in 65 at bats. I wasn’t a big Bautista fan in the preseason and it looks as though he is washed up. But, as long as he is on the field expect better results. There is just now way he can sustain the extremely low .132 batting average. Expect things to get better but don’t expect the Bautista of previous years.

Byron Buxton is playing absolutely awful this season. There’s no need to put the numbers in as his struggles have been widely published. It’s disappointing to see such struggles but he clearly isn’t ready. Top prospects rarely fail and you would expect someone who was ranked ahead of Kris Bryant would have the talent to succeed at the next level. It’s not happening this year for Buxton.

We may very well look back on this season and laugh about how ridiculous it was to get Bryce Harper in the early 2nd round.

Freddie Freeman has been the number 1 1st baseman in baseball this season. Freeman gets underrated every season and always outperforms his ADP. He clearly won’t keep hitting .4o0 but expect a low .300 batting average with 30-40 homers and 100 rbi.

Cesar Hernandez is batting .329 with 17 runs and 3 stolen bases. Many may think this is a sell high but I think the opposite. Hernandez has a nice skill set and hitting at the top of the Phillies should help his value.

Ryan Braun has a .288 batting average with 6 homers and 4 stolen bases. Braun was my guy this preseason because of the simple fact that this is the healthiest he has come into a season in 3 seasons. He looks good and may surpass his totals from last season.
