Fantasy Basketball: Add’em or Drop’em for 1/1/16
Alright, GF2 fans, it’s time for my weekly fantasy basketball Add’em or Drop’em players for the week! From week to week there are players out there who are on the cusp of all of our add or drop lists. From Evan Fournier to Zach LaVine, there are players who you all just aren’t sure about. Luckily, I’m here to give you guys the breakdown on who I see fit to be a part of your fantasy squads!
So, here’s my fantasy basketball Add’em or Drop’em players for this week:
Evan Fournier, Magic SG
Fournier is owned in 76.5 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. I have been on the Fournier bandwagon all season long! He’s had his ups and downs, but I’ve stuck by his side through it all. So far this season, Fournier has averaged 14.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 32.1 minutes per game. He also fills the stat sheets, averaging 1.3 steals and 2.0 three-point shots made per contest in 2015 as well. Fournier should be on your rosters in both season long and DFS leagues going forward!
Verdict: Add’em
Zach LaVine, Wolves PG
LaVine is owned in 68.3 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. Coming into the 2015 season, I was very high on LaVine’s fantasy upside, but, unfortunately, I was completely wrong thus far. This season, LaVine has averaged 14.2 points, 3.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds in just 24.4 minutes per contest. Between his lack of court time and the stellar play of Ricky Rubio, LaVine is just way too inconsistent to be a viable season long fantasy option. Unless Rubio is injured, which is always a possibility, I don’t see any reason to own LaVine.
Verdict: Drop’em
Wesley Matthews, Mavericks SG
Matthews is owned in 75.1 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. As a Mavs fan, I wasn’t sure exactly what we’d get out of Matthews coming into his first season in Dallas. Coming off an Achilles injury from last season, he wasn’t a guy I was expecting to own for fantasy purposes until after the All-Star break, but he’s been fantastic over the last month. In 2015, Matthews has averaged 12.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 31.6 minutes per game. He really excels from three-point range, averaging 2.6 made three-pointers per contest this year. Dallas as a whole has looked good so far this year and Matthews will only get better as he gains confidence with his new teammates.
Verdict: Add’em
Gorgui Dieng, Wolves C

Dieng is owned in 62.1 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. I’m going to be a bit hard on Minnesota players in this article obviously. For a while, Dieng found himself in the Wolves starting lineup and was really flourishing for his fantasy owners. Things have changed lately, though, as he finds himself coming off the bench once again. This year, Dieng has averaged 8.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 24.5 minutes per game. Like I always say, total minutes played per game is a critical deciding factor in whether or not I’ll own a particular player, so Dieng doesn’t meet that criteria.
Verdict: Drop’em
Jeff Green, Grizzlies SF
Green is owned in 36.6 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. I had to find you guys a potential gem to grab off of the waiver wire for the weekend! That guy is Green, who is playing well over the last few weeks for Memphis. So far this year, he has averaged 10.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 28.7 minutes per game. Green is a starter for the Grizzlies, which always peaks my interest and is looking to continue to see more minutes. He’s not known as the model of consistency, but you guys should jump on the train while he’s still hot for now.
Verdict: Add’em
Happy New Year and thanks for reading!
