Fantasy Basketball: Add’em or Drop’em for 11/9-11/15

While sitting on the couch watching cartoons with my daughter, I decided to create a new NBA season long fantasy article for all of you GF2 fans! Each week we all hit the fantasy basketball waiver wire, looking for the next big thing. There are always those guys who tug at our hearts and make it hard to drop them from your squad, but that’s what I’m here for, I’ll help you make those tough decisions. Sometimes it’s like breaking up with your significant other when dropping these guys, so I know it’s hard to let go!

So, here’s my Add’em or Drop’em players for this week:

Marvin Williams, Hornets SF

Williams is owned in 60.6 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. I can’t believe that Williams has already been in the league for 10 years now! Wow, how has time passed, but he’s never really been very fantasy relevant until now. This season, Williams has averaged 11.8 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. He’s also making 2.2 three-point shots per contest this year as well. When I’m looking for a solid guy to grab off of waivers one key thing that I look for is his minutes played per game. In 2015, Williams is averaging a very impressive 32.8 minutes per game, making him an ultra-valuable pick up going forward.

Verdict: Add’em

D’Angelo Russell, Lakers PG

Russell is owned in 67.0 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. I publicly stated before the 2015-16 season started that I thought Russell could be among the ROY of the year candidates, boy was I wrong… He just hasn’t played well at all this year and it looks like both Jordan Clarkson and Lou Williams are better options in Los Angeles. This year, Russell has averaged 10.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. Since it’s looking like a bit of a time share at the point guard position for the Lakers, he is only averaging 24.0 minutes per contest. Russell is also shooting an abysmal 30 percent from three-point range, so he just isn’t cutting it thus far in his rookie campaign.

Verdict: Drop’em

Kent Bazemore, Hawks SG

Bazemore is owned in 41.1 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. This guy has guy has been an absolute stat sheet-stuffer so far in 2015! So far this season, Bazemore has averaged 10.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.7 steals per contest. He’s seeing 28.3 minutes per game on an Atlanta team full of solid fantasy basketball contributors. Bazemore is one of those players who can very well help your team get over the hump with his uncanny ability to score in multiple fantasy categories. Get this guy on your team ASAP!

Verdict: Add’em

David Lee, Celtics PF

Lee is owned in 60.5 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. I’m sure most of you were on the same page as me coming into this season in thinking that Lee was going to rejuvenate his career in Beantown. Well, so far things just haven’t panned out and don’t look to be anytime soon. This year, Lee has averaged just 5.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He’s only seeing 18.0 minutes per contest and is splitting time with a handful of big men for the Celtics. As much as I hate to say it, cut ties with this 10-year veteran.

Verdict: Drop’em

Marcus Thornton, Rockets SG

Thornton is owned in 21.5 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. This guy wasn’t anywhere on my fantasy radar coming into the 2015 NBA fantasy season. This year, Thornton has averaged 15.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. He’s also contributing tremendously from three-point land, making 3.3 three’s per contest. Thornton sees 35.0 minutes per game and looks to have cemented himself into a pivotal role on this Rockets squad! I was a little fearful to own other guards on Houston’s team due to James Harden’s ability to steal the show, but Thornton has proven me wrong.
