Fantasy Basketball: Add’em or Drop’em for 1/22/16

What’s up, GF2 fans!? I’ve got my weekly fantasy basketball Add’em or Drop’em players coming your way on this beautiful Friday morning. Every great season long fantasy player knows that nothing is more important than working the waiver wire every single week. I’m here to help you guys make all the tough decisions on who to add or drop from your fantasy rosters. From Marcus Morris to Wesley Matthews, there are players out there who are on the cusp of my add or drop list.

So, here’s my fantasy basketball Add’em or Drop’em players for the week:

Marcus Morris, Pistons PF

Morris is owned in 74.6 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. Morris has been up and down statistically all season long and is one of those players you must own during his hot streaks. This year, he has averaged 14.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 36.6 minutes per game. The key to Morris’ fantasy value is his high minutes totals per game. The more time your players see on the court, the more opportunities they’ll have to score us all points. In his first season with Detroit, Morris has quickly become one of the team’s top scorers, so go out and grab him in your leagues!

Verdict: Add’em

Wesley Matthews, Mavericks SGWesley Matthews

Matthews is owned in 74.5 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. As a Mavs fan, I watch plenty of this guy every single week, so I know exactly what his fantasy value holds. Yes, I like him as a real life player, but a fantasy stud he’s not. This year, Matthews has averaged 12.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 32.9 minutes per contest. What the heck is he doing with all those minutes you might be asking yourself? Not much, honestly, if he doesn’t have a big offensive night, then he will be horrible for you fantasy squad. Over his last three games, Matthews has only made 6 of 20 shots from behind the arc, which also kills his fantasy value.

Verdict: Drop’em

Taj Gibson, Bulls PF

Gibson is owned in 46.2 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. Gibson contains massive fantasy upside while Joakim Noah is on the sidelines nursing his shoulder injury. Fresh off of surgery, Noah won’t be seeing court time for a while for Chicago, freeing up a ton of playing time for Gibson. This season, Gibson has averaged 7.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 25.3 minutes per game. He should without a doubt see an increase in minutes, which will get him closer to double-double stats in points and rebounds.

Eric Gordon, Pelicans SG

Gordon is owned in 65.7 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. Gordon is a lot like Matthews, if he isn’t scoring a big amount of points, then he isn’t producing enough for your fantasy roster. So far this season, he has averaged 14.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 32.9 minutes per contest. Shooting guards are by far one of the thinnest positions in fantasy basketball and there is no reason to roster a player who doesn’t get you stats across the board. The last big thing with Gordon is the fact that he is injured. He’ll be out the next four to six weeks, following surgery on his finger.

Verdict: Drop’em

Ersan Ilyasova, Pistons PF

Ilyasova is owned in 44.1 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. I’m very high on the Pistons players right now and believe anytime these guys get hot you should jump on the bandwagon. Ilyasova is a very streaky player and has caught fire lately, so he should be a nice addition to your fantasy roster. So far this year, he has averaged 11.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 27.7 minutes per game. In 4 of his last 6 games, Ilyasova has scored at least 17 points and is seeing an increased workload for Detroit.
