Fantasy Football: Keep ‘Em or Cut ‘Em – Week Eight

Buckle up, friends! We are just about halfway through the NFL season already! In PPR, Kyler Murray leads all QBs, DeAndre Hopkins leads all WRs, Alvin Kamara leads all RBs and Travis Kelce leads all TEs. What you can’t see here is the injuries that continue to take a toll on fantasy teams across the country. It will so important down the stretch to make sure you are keeping or cutting the right players. One wrong move and it could cost you a championship.

Chase Claypool – Pittsburgh Steelers WR (1 reception for -2 yards)

Fantasy owners experienced stellar play from Chase Claypool in weeks five and six. 15 targets, 11 receptions for 197 yards and 5 total TDs. So you can imagine the frustration when Chase ended week seven with 1 target which led to a shocking -2 yards for the day. However, Big Ben targeted Diontae Johnson and Juju Smith-Schuster a combined 29 times on Sunday. 29! That culminated in 59% of Ben’s targets on Sunday. Claypool will bounce back in a surging 6-0 Steelers team. Verdict: Keep ‘Em

Cam Newton – New England Patriots QB (9/15 for 98 yards and 3 INT)

Doesn’t Superman save lives? “Superman” most definitely did not save fantasy lives this past week. In fact, the last time Cam threw a TD pass was all the way back in week three. He only has 2 passing TDs on the season and 7 INT to go along with that. Yes, he has rushing upside, but you need more from your QB than just that. If you didn’t cut ties just yet, please do so now. Verdict: Cut ‘Em

Denzel Mims – New York Jets WR (4 receptions for 42 yards)

Welcome to the NFL, Denzel Mims! Mims made his NFL debut this past week after spending the first six weeks on IR. Yes, Jamison Crowder was out with an injury, so Mims saw an uptick in targets, with seven for the game. However, I expect the second round rookie to have a role in this offense moving forward, because well, who else is there on that awful offense? Hold for now. Verdict: Keep ‘Em

Mike Evans – Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR (2 receptions for 37 yards)

Mike Evans may be the most disrespected WR year after year. The talent is there. The stats are there. However, Evans has struggled with injury this year and has only seen 4 targets the past two games. After scoring in each of his first five outings, Evans has struggled to get looks from Tom Brady the past two weeks. Add in the fact that Antonio Brown is coming back and I am beginning to have concerns as to where Evans will fit into this offense on a daily basis. See if you can cut ties and make a trade. I don’t see his value increasing for the remainder of the year. If anything, unfortunately I see his value beginning to decrease. Verdict: Cut ‘Em (Trade Bait!)

D.J. Chark – Jacksonville Jaguars WR (1 reception for 26 yards)

Baby Chark, doo doo doo doo. I was so high on D.J. Chark this year. I was gobbling up all the Chark shares. AND I STILL AM. It’s no doubt that Chark has struggled this year due to injuries and a struggling QB in Gardner Minshew. However, the targets are there. In the past two weeks alone, Chark has seen 21 targets! These targets have only resulted in 71 yards, but volume is king. Also, have you seen his upcoming schedule after the week 8 bye? Houston, Cleveland, Minnesota, Tennessee. Be patient. Buy Chark shares. Verdict: Keep ‘Em

Cam Akers – Los Angeles Rams RB (Missing in Action)

Cam Akers was “missing in action” on Monday night as he literally didn’t touch the ball in the Rams win. In fact, Akers hasn’t touched the ball over the past two weeks after rushing 9 times for 61 yards in week five. Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown appear to be locked into a RBBC role, with Akers warming up the bench. Don’t worry about wasting a roster spot on him for now. You can cut. Verdict: Cut ‘Em
