Fantasy Football: Keep ‘Em or Cut ‘Em – Week Seven

Week six is over. Three teams remain undefeated. Steelers, Titans and Seahawks. The New York Jets are on a fast track for the #1 overall pick and the Chiefs signed RB Le’Veon Bell. What a week it was! Let’s take a look at a few players who you should keep an eye on this week.

Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers QB (16/35 for 160 yards and 2 INT)

Yikes. That was hard to watch. Aaron Rodgers looked lost against the Buccaneer’s defense. Rodgers had 13 TDs and 0 INT in his first four games this season. Coming fresh off a bye week, expectations were at an all-time high, and boy did he disappoint! Don’t drop him yet. He has a juicy matchup with the Houston Texans next week (Ryan Tannehill just lit them up for 364 yards and 4 TDs) and the Minnesota Vikings in week eight (Matt Ryan just lit them up for 371 yards and 4 TDs). Verdict: Keep ‘Em

Jonnu Smith – Tennessee Titans TE (1 reception for 13 yards)

In a game that combined for 78 points and one in which the Titans racked up 601 yards of offense, Jonnu Smith saw 2 targets and ended with 1 reception for 13 yards. But what you may not know is that Smith left the game with an injury. He is dealing with a minor ankle sprain and it appears as if he avoided a long-term injury. Don’t drop him yet because he is a valuable asset on a surging Titans team and he could play a crucial part in your late-season surge. Verdict: Keep ‘Em

John Brown – Buffalo Bills WR (Zero receptions on 4 targets)

After hauling in 10 receptions for 152 yards and 2 TDs in the first two games of the season, John Brown has since hauled in 4 receptions for 42 yards in the past four games. Two of those four games resulted in zero receptions. It appears as if Cole Beasley has taken over as WR2 in this offense, securing 24 targets which resulted in 19 receptions for 230 yards and 2 TDs in the past four games. I wouldn’t waste a roster spot on Brown at this point, who is probably warming your bench by now. Verdict: Cut ‘Em

J.K. Dobbins – Baltimore Ravens RB (9 carries for 28 yards; 2 receptions for 1 yard)

You didn’t draft J.K. Dobbins to be your starting RB. No, you drafted Dobbins because he is a promising rookie, on a very talented offense and it is only a matter of time before he begins to see increased snaps and his fair share of work. This week, Mark Ingram suffered an ankle injury early in the first quarter and didn’t end up returning. Gus Edwards still looms and would still get carries, but this is Dobbins’s chance to shine. Hold onto him through the Ravens bye week and watch him work his magic come week eight. Verdict: Keep ‘Em

Zach Ertz – Philadelphia Eagles TE (4 receptions for 33 yards)

This one Ertz. See what I did there? There are a few reasons why this one hurts. One, Zach Ertz hasn’t recorded a TD since week one. Additionally, Ertz suffered a high ankle sprain in week six and is likely to be placed on IR in the coming days and miss 3-4 weeks. Ertz was once a guaranteed top-three option at TE and now I am recommending that you cut him. You may be able to package him in a deal to an owner desperate for a TE, but don’t expect much in return at this time. His value is at an all-time low. Verdict: Cut ‘Em

Julian Edelman – New England Patriots WR (2 receptions for 8 yards; 38 passing yards)

I think it’s safe to say that Edelman misses his buddy, Tom Brady. Cam Newton has targeted Julian Edelman an average of 6.8 times per game. That’s the only good thing going for Edelman. What has Edelman does with those targets? He’s racked up 18 receptions for 294 yards and zero TDs in five games. The Patriots are missing something on offense and I don’t think they know what it is yet. You can safely drop Edelman. Verdict: Cut ‘Em
