Fantasy Football Week 3 Streamers: QB, TE, Team Defense

Before diving into Week 3’s streamers, let’s do a review/accountability session for Week 2 (Yahoo! scoring, 0.5-point PPR).

Quarterback: Teddy Bridgewater-21.22 points
Tight End: Jared Cook-4.3 points
Team Defense: New York Giants-2 points

Moving on, here are my quarterback, tight end and team defense fantasy streamers for Week 3.

Quarterback: Daniel Jones vs. Atlanta Falcons

Jones’ Week 2 could have been even better than it was, but he had a touchdown run called back by a ticky-tack penalty and Darius Slayton dropped a wide-open touchdown pass. As it was he threw for 249 yards and ran for 95 with two total touchdowns against Washington, with zero turnovers. Through two games, he’s QB5 in fantasy. In Week 3, he gets his best matchup thus far.

The Atlanta Falcons have allowed a league-high eight touchdown passes through two games, and naturally they’ve allowed the most fantasy points to quarterbacks (29.2 per game; Yahoo! scoring). In Week 1, Jalen Hurts supplemented a three-touchdown pass outing against the Falcons with 62 rushing yards.

Jones is in line to do a lot of damage through the air and on the ground Sunday. Even if he misfires a throw once in awhile, the Falcons are not equipped to take advantage.

Others To Consider: Teddy Bridgewater, Denver Broncos vs. New York Jets; Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers at Houston Texans (Thursday night); Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders vs. Miami Dolphins; Justin Fields, Chicago Bears at Cleveland Browns (if he starts); Taylor Heinicke, Washington Football Team at Buffalo Bills (2-QB leagues); Jared Goff, Detroit Lions vs. Baltimore Ravens; Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Tight End: Jack Doyle, Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans

The tight end landscape for those who didn’t draft one of the top-tier guys can be tough at times, and streaming the position for Week 3 looks particularly rough. But I’ve got an angle on Doyle, who had five catches (on eight targets) for 64 yards with a two-point conversion in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams. Meanwhile, Mo Alie-Cox (one catch on two targets) was the only other Colts’ tight end to catch a pass in the game. That’s enough positive momentum to put Doyle on the radar for an AFC South matchup in Week 3.

The Tennessee Titans have allowed just one catch for three yards to opposing tight ends through two games. But they haven’t exactly faced great players at the positon, against the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks. The Colts use their tight ends more than those teams do.

Colts quarterback Carson Wentz is dealing with two sprained ankles, casting his status for Sunday against the Titans into doubt. If he can’t go, Jacob Eason (an interception over five pass attempts in Week 2) will make his first career start. But I see the target tree narrowing if Eason is under center, with Michael Pittman and Doyle as his top two options.

Doyle may not put up a ton of yardage against the Titans. But I can see him getting 5-10 targets from whoever the quarterbck is, with a handful of catches and a coin-flip’s chance at a touchdown.

Others To Consider: Jared Cook, Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs; Austin Hooper, Cleveland Browns vs, Chicago Bears; Evan Engram, New York Giants vs. Atlanta Falcons (check injury status); Dawson Knox, Buffalo Bills vs. Washington Football Team; Gerald Everett, Seattle Seahawks at Minnesota Vikings (check availability); Cole Kmet, Chicago Bears at Cleveland Browns

Team Defense: Carolina Panthers at Houston Texans (Thursday night)

Over their first two games, the Panthers’ defense has allowed a total of 21 points to the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints with 10 sacks and three interceptions. Team defense streamers have been rewarded solidly, and the matchup can’t be much better for them in Week 3.

Tyrod Taylor has played well for the Houston Texans so far, but a hamstring injury in Week 2 will cost him Week 3 and perhaps a few games after that. Talk of Deshaun Watson being active was quickly squashed by head coach David Culley, so rookie Davis Mills will make his first NFL start on a short week. Mills stepped in for Taylor last week against the Browns, completing eight of 18 passes for 102 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

The 2-0 Panthers still have to dispel some doubters, and beating the Texans won’t do much to fix that if they get it done. But the defense has been very good, and they’ll be facing a rookie quarterback in his first start with less than normal time to take first-team practice reps. It adds up Carolina’s defense being my top defense streamer for the second time in three weeks.
