Fantasy Football Week 3 Streamers: QB, TE, Team Defense

Before the unveil of Week 3’s streamers, let’s see how Week’ 2’s quarterback, tight end and team defense fantasy football streamers did (Yahoo! scoring, 0.5-point PPR).

Quarterback: Baker Mayfield-18.38 points
Tight End: Hunter Henry-14.2 points
Team Defense: New York Giants: -1 point

Now, here are our quarterback, tight end and team defense streamers for Week 3.

Quarterback: Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams at Cincinnati Bengals (Monday night)

I almost went back to a previous streamer I’ve used this year, and there’s a strong case for both this week. Stafford only has one touchdown so far this season, but he has topped 300 passing yards in both games this season and his Week 3 matchup looks promising.

The Cincinnati Bengals enter Week 3 allowing the fifth-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks (Yahoo! scoring). They have allowed some rushing production to both quarterbacks they’ve faced this season (Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson), which has offset a relative lack of passing volume (31 attempts per game). Stafford is likely to throw more this week, but it’s worth noting he has double-digit rushing yards in both games this season and he nearly had a rushing score in Week 1.

It’s safe to assume Stafford has never been my quarterback streamer, now into my….eighth? season doing this weekly column, because he has rarely if every qualified. But he qualifies this week, and if he keeps playing well and still qualifies he may land here again down the road.

Others To Consider: Sam Howell, Washington Commanders vs. Buffalo Bills; Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Philadelphia Eagles (Monday night); Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers vs. New Orleans Saints; Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers vs. New York Giants (Thursday night); Russell Wilson, Denver Broncos at Miami Dolphins; Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh Steelers at Las Vegas Raiders (Sunday night); Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints at Green Bay Packers

Tight End: Hunter Henry, New England Patriots at New York Jets

Henry followed five catches for 56 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 with six catches for 52 yards and a touchdown in Week 2. He won’t score every week, but his Week 3 matchup is solid.

The New York Jets have allowed 5.5 receptions per game to opposing tight ends so far this season (tied for eighth-most in the league). They allowed two touchdowns to Dallas Cowboys tight ends in Week 2, one each to Jake Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker.

Henry is clearly a top target for Mac Jones. While the Patriots’ passing volume is in line to drop this week against a weaker Jets’ team, a heavily involved tight end who might score a touchdown is a fine streamer (again). So I’m going back to the well with Henry for Week 3, as inexplicably still qualifies.

Others To Consider: Zach Ertz, Arizona Cardinals vs. Dallas Cowboys; Jake Ferguson, Dallas Cowboys at Arizona Cardinals; Tyler Conklin, New York Jets vs. New England Patriots; Hayden Hurst, Carolina Panthers at Seattle Seahawks; Cade Otton, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Philadelphia Eagles (Monday night)

Team Defense: Kansas City Chiefs at Chicago Bears

The Chiefs are coming off a nice defensive showing in Week 2, as they held the Jacksonville Jaguars to nine points with four sacks of Trevor Lawrence and one takeaway. Turns out having Chris Jones makes a big difference (who knew?), and Week 3 brings a fantastic matchup.

The idea Justin Fields would make progress as a passer this season has largely been a myth through two games. Pass protection has definitely been a thing, with Fields sacked 10 times, and he has also throw three interceptions. Defensive touchdowns are as random as it gets, but the Packers and Buccaneers both had a pick-6 against the Bears.

Targeting the Arizona Cardinals with the team defense streamer is not possible this week, since they face the Dallas Cowboys (and it didn’t work out last week anyway). One of the next-best things is the Bears right now, so the Chiefs are a no-brainer here for Week 3.
